The Police were one of the bands I really liked early on when I was just getting into music.

Don't stand so close to me and every little thing she does is magic are some of the first songs I have recollection of hearing on the radio. They were probably brand new at the time.
This is the song that got me familiar with the group when it played on the radio back in the day :

I remember this one around the same time! I had this one in my head, but kind of forgot what it was called, but I always hear the synthesizer playing in my head.

As a child, I associated this song with vampires and dracula. The synthesizer to me sounded like the creepy music they would play outside the dracula castle on the Wildwood boardwalk. It was either that one or maybe it was the one in Brigantine. Both have long since burned down. It's probably been 20 years since the Wildwood one burned, but the Brigantine one must have been closer to 40 years ago.

I went to the Wildwood boardwalk sometimes several times every summer as a kid. The dracula castle used to play something that sounded like that, or maybe it was the Brigantine. Either way, my memory of the Wildwood castle is a little more vivid as it was on the boardwalk with all the other rides, while the Brigantine one was just in a secluded spot on the beach. No boardwalk or other rides.

The noises definitely annoy me, though they don’t make me hide in the laundry room or under a table and shiver, like they do to the dog.

This is a little 12.5 pound chihuahua/terrier and she gets scared over the littlest things.

It’s been on and off thundering the entire day, so she’s already not having a good day because of that.

I don’t think thunder scares her nearly as much as the fireworks though.
Do they make a thunder jacket for the little pooch?

@Bleedred isn’t being honest. It’s really just him that hates losing sleep over the fireworks.

Look, this is a clip from his pup on the 4th of July.

To be honest, I have been really tired the last few days. I haven’t slept well at all.

Not much to do with the fireworks though, as they’re over long before I’m still lying awake.

I am with you 100% Bleed. Have you ever taken a vacation and feel more tired when you go back to work? Yep, that’s me.

I work every day and haven't had a day off in a while, though it's not like I work a full 8 hours all 7 days. I usually just come in to check on things (clean the pool) for a couple of those days.

Now I have company coming tomorrow for a couple of days. My step brother and his family from Colorado. They come this week every year and for Christmas/New Years most of the time. So I go to Disney, Busch Gardens and stuff like that with them and the kids. They like to go to the beach too.

That means a little less sleep, as we usually stay up late BS'ing for hours, but it's a fun break and good to see everybody.

i made a pizza on the stone in the oven tonight...best in a long time, maybe it was a new ratio of ingredients in the dough or pure luck...and zero problems with the launch....... in the words of chico, "it was gooood"

half pepperoni, mushroom, onion

half classic margherita...tomato slices, basil from the pot on the porch, bocconcini

...and home canned tomato sauce from last august

We made a homemade margherita last night too. My wife's dough, my sauce, sliced buffalo mozzarella, tomato slices, fresh basil from our plant on the deck, and a little fresh ground salt.

My wife has been making changes to her dough recipe each time she makes it, trying to get it closer to professional style, and it came out really good this time.

It's simply an undeniable fact that basil tastes better when it's from a little pot somewhere in your house than any other source.

My cilantro did some weird shit this year though, which made me sad.

I've never been able to get cilantro to work. I've tried twice and it just withers and dies before I get any value out of it. Easier to just buy it from the grocery store. Same thing with parsley.

Basil is definitely better home grown though. Way more expensive in the store, and often kind of sad and limp, rather than being crisp and with a sharper taste right off the plant.

Was a +1 for a wedding in the Hamptons this past weekend. Kind of insane how out of touch a ton of those people are from most of society. Was getting a drink and the dude I was talking to mentioned how Jay-Z and Beyonce used to live down the street from him.

They know how to through a damn good party tho I'll give em that

nothing special 2 cups flour, teaspoon of salt, sugar and yeast (touch extra yeast)....i think it was the full 10 minutes of kneeding that helped as i usually don't kneed that long
So I once read a food blog about NY pizza and what makes it what it is. The blogger speculated like many it was the water. But in his view, testing showed it was actually something to do with the machine mixing the dough and the aeration of it. Maybe the extra kneading added a bit more air to the mixture which gave it a bit more of a classic texture?

found this off some site.....gluten and air

///

Wheat flour contains a protein called gluten. When your dough is first mixed, the gluten protein strands are very loose and unconnected. This makes the dough look rough (or “shaggy”) and easy to break–it’s not very cohesive.

When you’re kneading dough, the stretching motion creates strength in the gluten strands, essentially making them line up and connect together. This network creates a smooth, strong dough that is stretchy and strong.

Not only does this create a smoother dough that will have a better texture when baked, it also traps air in the dough and helps it rise better.

General annoyance of the day:

There's two commercials I hate more than anything right now

1. That booking.com Melissa McCarthy commercial

2. That commercial for that Jardiance drug where they treat it like a f***ing musicial. It's the stupidest thing I've ever seen in my life. It's almost like a bad SNL parody/joke

I can't recall the booking.com one off the top of my head right now, but the Jardiance one needs to get f***ed.

I rarely watch TV during the NHL offseason.

I have to put up with this bullshit and now so do you.

And for those who haven't seen the Jardiance ad

Okay, I've seen that booking.com one, or at least I've listened to it. I think that's a slightly extended version, as I don't recall the ''As long as they have child care!'' part, but maybe I just tune it out by the time it gets to that.
