I'm one of those annoying assholes that loves screaming bottle rockets and saturn missile batteries, but I think the latest we've shot stuff off was like 11. We're usually done by 10-10:30 because the big professional fireworks at the state capitol grounds and rodeo grounds are usually around 10:30 and we try to watch them if we can.
Love me some fireworks. 11PM is a fine cutoff point.

Especially as I get older, and even more especially after the covid shutdowns I find the craziness of 4th of July, people getting drunk and blowing shit up, as pretty cathartic. I do find people tend to be pretty considerate these days in terms of safety, and cleaning stuff up, guys last night were raking the beach after they were down. Back in the day it was pure mayhem, or at least it just seemed way crazier when I was younger.

Now we've always been a pure single shot mortar group, big boomers. But I've grown to enjoy the multishot displays with lots of sparkle's mixed in with the boomers, and the screamers are a nice touch in there as well. Sacrificing the lone big explosion for significantly more, (albeit smaller features) that go off in sequence is more crowd pleasing.

I also buy the NJ legal ones from the food store. Ground level fountains, those are surprisingly fun and a nice addition when combined with bigger stuff.

Yeah my neighborhood in Brooklyn, where fireworks are hyper illegal, sounded like Kabul last night. Until like 1am. My poor little dog.

As long as you're close enough to states where monster fireworks are legal to buy (In my case, Pennsylvania), it's going to happen.

While I’m on the topic of ranting about my neighborhood, how the f*** does one’s panic button/car horn manage to go off over and over in the middle of the night? Are they sleeping with their keys in their bed and rolling over onto the button in their sleep?

Not that this is really the middle of the night, but it’s happened at 3:00-4:00 by the same assholes.

And it just went off and it took literally one minute and 55 seconds for them to shut it off from the time I first heard it.
The way you describe your neighborhood I picture all the houses occupied by clowns, people from a beer commercial, and villains from a Schwarzenegger movie.

I'm pretty sure the Schwarzenegger villains would be more considerate to people's dogs.

My older dog was shivering in our bed half the night (she's only allowed in when there are scary sky booms).

My younger husky, as per his usual, didn't give a shit.

I honestly don’t hate the fireworks up to a reasonable time, but after a bad experience with a bunch of inconsiderate assholes down the block (I’m not even sure where) blowing them off all night on new years of 2022, I have a short fuse with them. So when I still hear them full blast at 10:30 and off and on after 11:00, I expect them to still be going off all night because of those pieces of shit from new years of 2022.

Luckily, I stopped hearing them close to me by 11:30 or so, but could still hear them in the distance shortly after midnight.

I heard a long round of them going off around 3:40 AM again. Not that close to me, but I was having trouble sleeping and could hear them in the distance.

Those last noises were from the RPG and ATG missle exchanges by the Schwarzenegger villains nearby. Turns out some Bond villains live a block over and they had a slight disagreement.

I visited the Hawk Rise Sanctuary in Linden yesterday for the first time. It's a crazy place. You drive through an industrial area then get to the entrance to the sanctuary followed by 1.5 ish miles of trails. Half is boardwalk and the other half is gravel so it's easy.

Half of it is through dense woods. It's hard to believe you're in Linden, New Jersey because the woods are so dense it's somewhat dark in there and the birds echo loudly. I was there in the morning and it was so humid I felt like I was in a South American jungle. Then there's a few sections with boardwalks out in swampy/marshy areas.

If anyone is into outdoor adventures, check it out.

Here's a Snowy Egret I saw yesterday there.

Not even #1 picks that don't right away contribute the way you expect them to?

You had a whole meme created because of that. ("What a disgrace") :sarcasm::sarcasm::sarcasm:
Nope not even our first ever number 1 overall who is completely average bothers me

Wait, now he's completely average? Wow, you've really softened on him. I guess you are mellowing out in your old age.
I always said was good...just incredibly disappointing for our organizations first ever #1OA. And like I have said to you repeatedly, I love Travis Zajac, I'd hate it if we had to use a #1OA to get him.

There are superstars from his draft year and he's just not one of them. Doesn't mean he sucks though.

But hey, this is the T.A.N. no hockey here I thought?

It's a thread about nothing.

Not a thread about no-hockey. (at least I don't think it is)

It's a thread where we discuss about....whatever we want.

I've caught so many large fish on this forum it's hard to remember which was the biggest.

My outlook on fireworks will always be that they're cool when they're put on by some sort of organizing body in a controlled environment with professionals and in a set time and place so people can choose to opt out. They're borderline sadistic when done anywhere else.

We're looking for some new GMs to join us over on the GM Games forum.

We have a new game that is taking sign-ups now, for anyone who wants to make the offseason go by a bit quicker.

Happy to discuss!

Did you at least post angrily in your town's Facebook page about it?

Jokes aside - one of them was my nextdoor neighbor. He always gives me the heads up about timing and such. They're good friends/ neighbors. And they were really cool fireworks.

But I mean - fireworks ARE awesome. Just sucks for my pooch. We are upping the trazadone dose.

Has anybody else been doing this Puckdoku thing? I'm not going to post a link because I'm not sure if it would be considered an ad or not, but you can find it pretty easily by searching for it. It's both fun and completely frustrating when you miss an obvious answer.

Poor little guy. Maybe you can carry him a bit before he wants to get down?

Tried that. He's deformed (rescue dog) so I already carry him down the stairs in my apartment building for walks; he's an 11lb shih tzu. He just starts shaking and won't move. I carried him half a block away and put him down, and he just started walking right back home without stopping to do the usual sniffing and peeing on stuff.

On the actual 4th I managed to calm him down and get him to walk a little, then a huge firework went off nearby and he just RAN. Like if I didn't have a leash on him, he'd still be running I think. Had to carry him home then. He's fine on his morning walks, but now he's petrified of the evening. It really sucks.
