I’m excited for Matthew Knies to have a huge game tonight.
Yeah I figured it was probably something like that. I tend to take things too literally sometimes so I guess I just wanted to clarify, sorry for being so nitty. And I feel exactly the same as you, there are some interesting things to keep an eye on but I'm going to try to not get too high or too low until the playoffs.I'm not all that fussed nor do I really care until the playoffs start I guess is what I'm trying to say. Same as last regular season for me, not too high after a win, not too low after a loss.
If you can forget the past so easily and are happy with that, then I'm happy for you. I can assure you though that there are a great many people who do care about what happened in the past, both the good and the bad. Let's hope there's more good than bad coming in the near future, you never know, this could be the year.
Enjoy the season,
Good for you, there's way too much whining going on here on a daily basis.I dont forget the past. I just don't whine about it.
FYI, an assurance from you is also irrelevant.

I think it's mostly semantics that has people triggered for no reason. Change "excited" to "interested" and maybe then we all agree - we're interested.Always excited. How can one call themselves a fan if they are not excited to watch their team play?
Because I bleed this shit and my fandom runs a whole lot deeper than my emotional state on one game day or one season. I don't have to clap like a seal on game day to keep my fan card. I'm still the office Leafs fan and the king of thanksgiving hockey hot takes on both sides of my family.Always excited. How can one call themselves a fan if they are not excited to watch their team play?
No one said you had to clap like a seal (nor am I understanding the relevance), this is about whether or not you are excited for the upcoming season. Period. If the only thing that gets people excited is winning the cup, that's the textbook definition of a fairweather fan.Because I bleed this shit and my fandom runs a whole lot deeper than my emotional state on one game day or one season. There will be plenty of seasons before they lower me into the ground that I'm excited for. This is not one of them, and that's okay. Good for the ones who are excited, don't let Gary and I harsh your mellow, but you DID ask.
I’m thinking fans who have stuck with the team for decades have earned the right to be somewhat jaded at times. I’m glad. Hockey is back and I will most likely watch every Leafs game but excited not so much. Like many fans I’m expecting much the same as last year, great regular season and early exitAlways excited. How can one call themselves a fan if they are not excited to watch their team play?
Agreed. I’m very interested and really looking forward to it but with mostly the same group and coach as last year excited is not the word that comes to mindI think it's mostly semantics that has people triggered for no reason. Excitement is a relative term, we have literally millions of fans so it would be ridiculous to expect everyone to have the same level of excitement. We have a team packed with talent, for some people that's enough to be over the moon excited and that's fine. Other people refuse to pretend that the past doesn't exist, and are less excited about what's for the most part an 82 game warmup for the real season, nothing wrong with that either. At then end of the day, we'll all be watching tonight and we all want the team to win and look good while doing it.
GLG!!
Dude, I don't have to be excited to be a fan. I can be a fan however I want, because my fandom belongs to me and no one else. It's cool that you made up some reasons for why I'm not excited, but they're all rather wrong so it's somewhat funny. I care very deeply, and after 25 years of this team's psychological torture I have damn well earned my badge so as not to be a "fairweather" fan.No one said you had to clap like a seal (nor am I understanding the relevance), this is about whether or not you are excited for the upcoming season. Perhaps it is your unrealistic expectations that is causing you these issues? Many teams have been contenders for a decade before breaking through.....Washington and St Louis come to mind.
He decides who is a fan or not. Not you. Not I. Him. HIM.Dude, I don't have to be excited to be a fan. I can be a fan however I want, because my fandom belongs to me and no one else. I think the unrealistic expectation is you expecting everyone to be excited about this particular season. Not everyone is going to feel the same way as you, but that doesn't mean we're against you in any regard. It just means we don't have the same emotions about this particular game or season.
Go Leafs Go, but I don't have to pretend that this season feels the same as '16 or that I'm as excited now as I was in other years.
Not sure but I think it may be because he has a uhm "functioning brain!"Jeez, you've done a 180 from last year.
Clown post. Look at my join date, the Leafs weren't exactly world beaters in 14-15 or 15-16 if you recall. I've been a fan of this team for 25 years and while that's not as long as some around here, I know I've cheered through enough tough times that I don't have to answer to you or anyone else to keep my Leafs cred. I don't have to be excited to cheer for the Leafs, I always cheer for the Leafs, whether I'm excited, miserable, or anything in between. I post on this f***ing website, which is too die hard for most of the diehards, calling people fairweather around here is just asinine.Always amazed at those who can't look in the mirror and ask themselves this question.
Do I like cheering for my team through the tough times, or do I only cheer for them when they do/accomplish what I want?
The former is a true fan, the latter is an entitled fairweather fan.
What I don't get is why some people are so upset about my (and others) posts. I'm sharing my opinion, it's not even advice to the rest of you. You don't need unity in the fanbase for your own enjoyment, why does anyone care how I approach this?Last year we had Bunting on the first line, this year Bertuzzi. Last year Malgin on the freaking second line, this year Domi. Last year Engvall on the third line, this year Knies, not to mention Kerfoot at center, now Minten. I don’t get the “same team” stuff and frankly if you don’t have any enthusiasm, why the hell would you waste you time on a Leafs board to continually say it?
I don’t like jazz, I don’t listen to it and I have better things to do that talk about it online. Like Leafs chatting
I confess I haven’t read all your posts, and I have a couple here on ignore, but how can you “love” something and still argue you aren’t excited or passionate about them, it doesn’t make any sense to me, seems more like an intellectual pretzel than genuine self realization. I have no problem with you dude, it’s your gig, but I know people who have soured, they simply don’t follow them anymore. To spend a whole season on here routinely saying it’s meaningless, that doesn’t compute to me, but again, not my life or time. What I don't get is why some people are so upset about my (and others) posts. I post about the Leafs because, despite my lack of excitement, I love the Leafs with every ounce of my being. I love the bastards as much as any of you. I post on here because I love talking about the Leafs and whether I'm excited about them really has very little to do with whether I love them or not. And after posting on here for the last eight years, I'm rather fond of you lot and enjoy this community immensely.
Fandom is more than just being excited to watch the Leafs tonight. To me the Leafs means the team today, the team forever, and The Passion That Binds Us All. Not being excited for the team today just means that one small piece of what it means to be a Leafs fan isn't turning my crank today. Whoop de doo, you're not rid of me so easily.
love em or hate em, the one thing Boston always does is competes. And when they don't, heads roll...........Many of us thought it was going to be last season and look what they did. They've lost a hall of fame center and another very good center. Surely something has to give, doesn't it? They do still have a lot of talent including a deep defense.
Excited and passionate are two very different things. I've always been passionate about the team myself and that's been unchanged for over 50 years now. Excited ... meh, wake me up when the playoffs start.I confess I haven’t read all your posts, and I have a couple here on ignore, but how can you “love” something and still argue you aren’t excited or passionate about them, it doesn’t make any sense to me, seems more like an intellectual pretzel than genuine self realization.
