We'll cruise to the playoffs, if we show signs in the 1st round that this team can raise their level of compete to what's required to go deep, then I'll really be excited. Until then, there's a limit to how excited I can be.
I'll send you some pills, Gary.
I say we are a top 3 D man away from the cup.
Who is giving one of those up?

I love the Toronto Maple Leafs. Sometimes I get disappointed with them. That's fandom. But I will ALWAYS be excited for Leafs hockey.

Great thread. Too many people showing their full ass this summer. If you aren't excited, don't watch.
Here, here!

That's a good way to be for sure, makes the season more enjoyable if you can forget about how badly we've sucked in the playoffs with this core. I wish I could do it but I just can't erase the memory of Marner playing historically badly in game 3 as yet another season turned into a missed opportunity. Out of all our playoff failures, that was the worst been saying that for a while now.
It's not hard, I put last playoffs out of my mind about 10 minutes after the final whistle. There's no point in dwelling on and/or whining about what happened in the past. No one really cares anyway.

I don't know if they’ll take a step backwards this year or tread water.

A step forward would be dictating who wins the first round playoff series, rather than the opposition.

Fully expecting a trip to the final this year.
If disappointed, I will still conduct myself like a man.
 yeah it's ok to be disappointed but the endless weeping is tiresome.
Some have been crying for years about an over the glass penalty, I imagine the tears will keep rolling about game 3 last year for the foreseeable future.

Definitely expect a challenge for the Presidents Trophy and some playoff dominance.

If you can forget the past so easily and are happy with that, then I'm happy for you. I can assure you though that there are a great many people who do care about what happened in the past, both the good and the bad. Let's hope there's more good than bad coming in the near future, you never know, this could be the year.

Enjoy the season, GLG!!

Feel free to quit your crying any time. You're 100% correct, your whining got tiresome a long time ago.

At least you're not saying the over the glass penalty was 5 years ago any more, that's progress.

I don't know about excited but I am more interested than the last couple of years.
The new faces are worth checking out and a couple of kids look good.
Regular season I expect the same, finish well over 100 but this time finish first with TB/Bos declining.
Playoffs I won't think about until I see how the new look plays so will leave that worry until the trade deadline.

It’s same for me. I feel a lot more interested this year. Not just in the Leafs, but also the league as a whole. There are some interesting things going on.

Same here. Shiny new toys are always interesting and as much as people are talking about Knies and Minten, I'm most interested in seeing how Woll does. Lord knows it's been ages since we've had some stability at the goaltending position, here's hoping!

I'm interested in seeing how Boston does. This is the year when they finally take a big step backwards, right? Right?????

I hadn't really been thinking about the past but since it had been brought up, a lot of us recognize the emptiness of the regular season being a full test for such a talented team that thrives in the regular season. There have been elements added this season to promote optimism (the rookies and a different direction in the front office) regarding the playoff season being different this time around. Most of us don't forget the past playoffs and discuss what has gone wrong (or not right) in hope that those deficiencies have been addressed. The 2023-24 regular season will only test the NHL readiness of the rookies, the miscibility of the rentals UFAs and the stability of the team's defensive/goaltending situation. Otherwise this team is expected to easily qualify for its Test Season and there will be memories of past Test Seasons whether you like it or not.

Many of us thought it was going to be last season and look what they did. They've lost a hall of fame center and another very good center. Surely something has to give, doesn't it? They do still have a lot of talent including a deep defense.

Guaranteed, 100% they take a step back. They are not getting 135 points. Even if they drop 30 points, that’s still over 100 point team.

Last season was an outlier, they would be dropping with our without Bergeron/Krejci around, right? Now, the question is this: are they still a 100 point team? I am fascinated to find out.
Me too. A lot will depend on Ullmark and I don't think there's any question they will take a step back, it's just a question of how big a step. 25 points? 40 points? Who the hell knows but that's probably the most interesting story to watch for me.

I'm indifferent.

I like the additions of the supporting cast up front, breath of fresh air with rookies + Bertuzzi and Domi. The D is highly suspect but I imagine moves will be made around deadline to upgrade the back end. Not sold on the goaltending and I still think Keefe is a big problem.

I can understand people being excited, not being excited and all levels of excitement in between. I can't understand being indifferent though, I mean if you're a fan of the team, doesn't that indicate some level of engagement on your part which would mean by definition that you're not indifferent?

I'm not all that fussed nor do I really care until the playoffs start I guess is what I'm trying to say. Same as last regular season for me, not too high after a win, not too low after a loss.
