This loss is going to land heavy for months. What a great year though. Could've would've should've. Sports. This is why we need diverse interests and don't allow a team's success determine my mood and what's really important...shovel, shovel, cry, cry.

Looking forward to the summer.

Should be interesting what the roster looks like next year.

Henrique had 2 GWGs in this series. Henrique played under 12 minutes this game. Knoblach panicked a bit in the third and the top guys were gassed and kept going over the boards. I hope he learns from this.
WHy does every coach make the same mistake, we were most successful when we roll lines.
Then leave some gas in the tank for a 2.30 min Mcdavid shift at the end in desperation mode.

Totally gutted. Mostly sad at the no-shows from many of our top players…..
To be fair, they were probably playing hurt. Also the Coach was in a rough spot because he basically overplayed the stars just like Woody and Tippet used to, and they were too gassed in the final minutes. However, if he had benched them during the clutch moments he'd have been run out of town. In hindsight the Oilers should have taken some deliberate penalties and leaned on more Janmark/Brown shorthanded magic.

Still a good run for the boys. Just a few years ago they were missing the playoffs and now they've had back to back deep runs and won 2 post-season trophies, even though they missed out on the big one. 2nd Place still puts them like 8 rungs above the Maple Leafs and the Flames didn't even make the playoffs and had to watch their best draft pick since Brett Hull host a Cup while wearing the 'wrong' shade of red.

This is my first post here- was a great regular season run, great playoff run- really got me back into being a fan (along with a wife who loves hockey). I was barely old enough to comprehend what was going on when Gretzky won his last cup, but I was a big fan then! Was at game 6 on Friday, awesome experience!!

What I worry about is this: I’d feel great saying that this is a learning experience, they will be back in future years, etc, but at what point are we past the prime years of McDavid and Draisaitl? Doesn’t speed start going sooner than other skills? I feel like if this was happening in 2019 or 2020, great, they’ll learn and mature, etc, but now, I don’t know. They are a lot older than Gretzky was when he started winning cups. And by the time he was McDavid’s age, his cup years were done. But whatever, it has been a fun season.

Disagree, fumbling the puck all game behind our blueline, losing battles, cycling and passing to death on offense before a low chance shot. Took them two periods to change up the breakout after Florida changed how their defensemen prevented zone exits. They didn’t get to the net on entry until 7 minutes left in the third.

Could call it butterflies, or run down physically after a brutal postseason, but we played right into Florida’s gameplan, like in games 2 and 3.
It was the ice, play on shit ice half the year makes you better at dealing with it. Adv Panthers

At some point the NHL needs to determine what is acceptable in regards to interference. Hard to score a goal with someone hanging off you. And there was interference both ways but in the 3rd I thought it was out of hand what was being allowed. Oh well last ref rant of the year, boys made it interesting. Somewhat depressing that they couldn't pull it off.
The last 5 mins was the most frustrating hockey I've ever watched. I really don't mind the "let them play" mentality, especially in game 7 of the Stanley Cup final. But that turned into complete garbage hockey.

I'd like to believe if the Oilers had the 2-1 lead it would be called the same way. I have my doubts though.

Yep. Panthers got away with interference, hooking, holding, and slashing every single shift. That’s why McDavid and the others “didn’t show up”. It wasn’t some great defensive masterclass by the Panthers. They even ran Skinner a few times. Dirty piece of shit cheating team. Skill didn’t win the game. Cheating did, and the refs allowed it. Why am I not surprised.
The line I've said for the past several years is that in the playoffs, we will ultimately have to play against the opposing team and the refs. This still stands. Always gotta swim against the tide that is the corrupt/incompetent officiating.

In all the chaos of the game, instead of being consistent and upholding the rules, refs just add more chaos. Tired of this shit.

Yeah I am not a fan of the Panthers borderline illegal / dirty / interference way of playing. We learned in the 90's from the Devils that lesser skilled teams can frustrate their way to winning. When the Panthers did not play as aggressive in games 4, 5 and 6, they looked weak.

No Canadian team will win as long as Bettman is commissioner

On to the Drai signing.
15/8 I'd bet

Yeah, unlike the 2006 team we should be pushing for a run like this every year. 2006 was a team riding underdog energy and loads of luck with the bottom 4 taking out the top 4 in the west in the first round. Barely any truly elite players, maybe only 2 and one got injured in the final and he only had a year or 2 of magic in him anyways.

We have 3 offensive stars right now that any GM would kill to have, and any properly managed team would be challenging for pres trophys every year with. Most would only need the 2 C's, but we have a D too on that level.

If Jackson can get management right like he did coaching, we will be back, very soon, with home ice in the finals. If we get another Holland ... I don't wanna think about that.
This over and over again. Toews Kane. Malkin Crosby... These guys were winning cups and building dynasties by this time in their career, they also had GMs surrounding them with elite goaltending, defense and depth. We have like 80% of the pieces we need but still too many passengers. We were 1 game and 2 goals away from the cup. Will go down as one of the biggest fails in sports history if we cannot build a championshop team around mcdavid and draisaitl

Yup. The ice was atrocious too. Tough game, one bounce was the difference

Only chance for McDavid, Draisaitl and Hyman to get a Cup, and they blew it. The powerplay was useless. If Draisaitl was playing with a broken finger, he should not have been on the 1st powerplay unit wasting opportunities or on McDavid's line wasting opportunities.

Absolutely. We get 1 more chance to get it right. Proper cap management, proper D and winger depth. The balls to turn an injured player like Kane into an extra 5M addition to the lineup for a run, plus ensuring Kane is actually healthy for the run.

One last chance for proper management to not waste the career of a generational talent along with a top 5 player, and maybe now a top 3 offensive D.

If you think we're disappointed, think of McDrai. It's possible they never get this close again, it's extremely difficult in a 32 team league, which is soon to get larger. It really may have been cup or bust.

If they really want to win one they should accept a decent cut to play together.
Florida won presidents trophy eliminated first round, then 2 cup finals. This is not pronger leaving bad, we will be back next year and wont see any elimination games, 4-5 and 6 game series wins through 4 rounds, watch and see.
