Oh wow! I wonder what was going through Connor's head? :)
I heard yells of heads up,heads up from the Oilers a couple times when Soup got the puck and started winding up through the neutral zone. They picked up on his speed.
After they seen that they realized just how fast he really is. That was a wow minute for me too.

Our goalies look much better behind our improved D. My only concern is that none of the Canadian division teams can press/cycle like teams like Boston, Vegas, NYI, Columbus (last year) etc.

Kind of like past World Series when the winner of the AL meets the winner of the NL and you have never faced their pitching.

McDavid is crazy fast, but some guys are as fast.

I don't think anyone is close to McDavid speed with the puck (maybe MacKinnon)
Mikheyev blows around people with the puck lots. McDavid used to blow all kinds of opportunities to score also years back. Soup might be wise to get tips from Tavares/Matthews on some finish moves. I think he should jam some low shots with just a quick change of puck direction and go high shelf. It’s starting to come now a bit.

They will be hungry again. I think it is Vancouver thinking don’t let down because you might think they are tired. There are no easy games, have to maintain the pace and take less penalties than them.
What I find inspiring is that the Leafs seem to be settling into a tempo, a high paced tempo, but one were they seem to have another gear of they need it.
Yes they need to come dialed in every game, but it seems that other seasons they needed their A+ game of ensure victory whereas this year their A- game seems to be overwhelmingly good

I agree that the Leafs cannot be compared against teams you mentioned but with that said you cannot say anything wrong of them on how they are playing. I guess we will find out more as the season goes on.

One thing is for certain, if they can continue to gel like they have been. Find line combinations that can work well together, come playoff time that will only bode well for them. The 3rd line of Hyman-Engvall-Micheyev look like the real deal. Once Simmonds comes back that adds another dimension that we havent had in past playoffs. Imagine him on the 4th line with Boyd-Spezza and how they have been playing?

We may have 2 lines that are capable of playing the cycle game very well with our 3rd and 4th lines. Not to mention the size and speed they bring.

So we may not be that far off from contending with the teams you mentioned. On top of that I dont think other then maybe Boston and Tampa Bay, no one can ice 4 players in their top 6 like Matthews, Marner, Tavares, and Nylander. If the Leafs can continue to build their momentum, I dont know if there is any team that can stop them once playoff time comes.

Oilers fans are so mad half of them are lamenting how we're going to lose in the playoffs lol.
Well every team except one loses in the playoffs, but it sounds like they are compensating for their fears that they might not even make the playoffs :dunno:

No question you cannot complain about the way they have been playing. With their work ethic in the past 3 games and this D, they beat Columbus (easily).

Momentum going into the playoffs has always played a factor, but ours will be gone if we clinch the division early ;)

The trade off is that we should be well rested going into the playoffs and if we can dust off the two Canadian teams quickly, I like our chances in the next two rounds.

Dubas has the team where he wants it, now it is up to him to add that one or two pieces that can put us over the top.

the leafs cycle plenty

Good game, good win.

I think the fact that we shut down the best player in the world three nights in a row is a huge testament of how far we’ve become as a team and a contender.

IIRC they said Mcdavid has gone only twice in his career with no points in three games in a row. Make that three times after that game!

Also emphasizes how "strong defense" wins games and not offensive stars as the #1 belief often is. ;)

I believe this defense mechanism is called insecurity. It’s a way for Oilers fans to deflect any embarrassment they are currently feeling. Fascinating stuff I must say.

Also mcd's agility and stick handling at top speed that separates him from soup
It’s crazy good like a one way storm.
The problem for him is it’s lacking in all 3 zones.
The difference right now between prime Crosby and McD. He needs the offense away intensity then the it’s an overwhelming storm.
