It’s crazy good like a one way storm.
The problem for him is it’s lacking in all 3 zones.
The difference right now between prime Crosby and McD. He needs the offense away intensity then the it’s an overwhelming storm.
Agreed and maybe it's bad development or player personality but it's a big knock on him

One thing that's impressed me alot is the sheer talent most of these guys have. We have lamented "toughness" while Dubas and Company have been going for higher talent, higher ceiling, even if they are smaller. This shows especially on D... if they get swarmed, they can literally make 3 passes in the space of a phone booth to get out of trouble. I almost cringe sometimes when they have us outnumbered somewhere 2 to 1, and the outlet pass is to a guy 2 feet away. But they pull it off and 2-3 quick passes within 3-4 feet and they're out. High talent and some confidence and composure go a long way. Other teams always managed to do this against us in the O-zone and it was so frustrating. Very refreshing to see!

And the Oilers aren't up against the cap? They have way more pressing issues than this.

RNH to resign. Barrie due for a contract, among others. Goaltending issues, defence in general is a mess.

That team is stuck, and will be for a long time.

Ken Holland had a chance when he took over.

He should have just told himself "Keep McDrai and ELC players, but move everyone else for whatever I can get. And don't re-sign anyone."

If he had done that, and cleared out some bad contracts, gotten some good young value for guys like Nurse and RNH, and had some capspace to work with heading into the offseason, that ship would already be turning around...instead of heading over the cliff now. He hasn't cleared out any crap, guys like RNH are only losing value, and he wasted more capspacr with stuff like that idiotic Kassian extension.

It's just a horrendous roster outside of McDrai. Irredeemable.

I don’t want to take anything away from guys like McD/Matthews/Marner etc. What makes them special is special. But if you are the front lines you are out there for 20-25 minutes, what are you doing without the offense?
Look at Eichel. Same thing and now appears just totally checked out even from offense.

Champion mentality. Not just offense mentality.

Toronto fans always had this strange idea, going back decades, that the Leafs were never gritty enough.

When it's been obvious that they've never truly had the elite talent to be a cup favorite, before now.

Another stellar performance ... Oilers have ZERO defense except Nurse ... can't see a playoff team there even with McJesus ... and now he has gone cold too ... expect Flames to figure things out with their defense and tender and take 4th spot ... Oilers had a huge offensive run which can't sustain itself

Also mcd's agility and stick handling at top speed that separates him from soup

I don't disagree but you along with more then a few NHL dmen underestimated Soup when he's coming down the leftside and takes those two power strides and goes past you like you're standing still:nod:

Dave Tippett epitomizes the "Old Boys Club". His responses to questions through this whole series make him sound like a dinosaur.

Thankfully we've moved on to a modern coach.

It's these Canadian teams with their diehard fanbases that rely more than any other teams on the Old Boys club and old time hockey theory. It's pretty depressing because Canadians should be the hockey experts and leading on the cutting edge, but instead they all lazily double down on safe clichés and hockey retreads. Meanwhile teams in more tenuous hockey markets actually try new things because they actually need to earn their fanbases.

Until the leafs finally broke the mold, thank Jesus.

Every other Canadian team should fire their useless front offices yesterday, and not even sniff around the old boys club for their replacements.

Absolute clinic 3 game set. Even the strongest of game plans fail against Mcdavid and Draisatl. They are very very special players that the boys completely shut down for 3 games. As life long leaf fans in here, how can anybody be anything other than elated with this team? It was almost as if they took the praise the oilers were getting prior to the 3 games personally. The oil cam in being 11-2 in their last 13 and most were staging this as the battle of the best. It's almost like the boys were offended by being in that company. To me that's championship, killer mentality. To kick em while they were down in game 3 is something I have grown not to expect from this group in years past. Yet now its becoming a common occurrence. It is very clear to me that this team doesn't just want to win, they want to be the best.

To be fair, theyre missing their best Dman (Klefbom)

Yeah there's a few Canadian teams (well at least on these boards) that want their coaches gone... Montreal was one, check. Next 2 are Edmonton and Calgary. With Gallant, Julien and Babcock out there, I suspect one of those will pull the trigger, and go back to the old boys club again ( I may be wrong).

It might be my blue and white goggles but I see Matthews and Marner as understanding that part of the game and working on it which is why I'm big on Matthews as our number 1C

Eichel seems like he has given up. Sabres fans blaming the coach and I guess in the NHL that's the first thing to get blamed, but I'm really not big on Eichel and never was

You're not disagreeing with me but I'm disagreeing with you
Never once did I dismiss nor discredit soups skills as you've laid them out. He burns to the outside then cuts to the net with strength and speed. I love it. I'm saying McD in a phone booth at full speed will turn 3 or 4 defenders inside out looking for their jocks, and soup doesn't have that.
That's all

Their D is terrible.
If their GM does not know it and would not go for one (possibly two) D before TDL, then he is not qualified for his job.
I don't know though if they have assets to trade and what their view on where they are in contending cycle. Dubois trade tells me they want to go for it and their core is in their prime, but they lost a lot of their D core for whatever reason.

Reactions: JT AM da real deal
The Good: 9 straight periods of being pretty much perfect. Jimmy Vesey has finally arrived in Toronto! Considering the offense just put 13 on the board in 3 games the teams' strength was the blueline and that brothers and sisters is bad ass good.

The Bad: All in all Freddie played alright in his return(who can argue with a .963?), but he doesn't look real comfortable, his positioning and especially his movement doesn't inspire a lot of confidence

The Ugly: That face say's it all!

Also emphasizes how "strong defense" wins games and not offensive stars as the #1 belief often is.
We just scored 6 goals, and 13 in the 3-game set. We're the #1 offensive team in the league, and the #1 overall team in the league, as a team with multiple superstars. Your claim is baseless.
