Absolute clinic 3 game set. Even the strongest of game plans fail against Mcdavid and Draisatl. They are very very special players that the boys completely shut down for 3 games. As life long leaf fans in here, how can anybody be anything other than elated with this team? It was almost as if they took the praise the oilers were getting prior to the 3 games personally. The oil cam in being 11-2 in their last 13 and most were staging this as the battle of the best. It's almost like the boys were offended by being in that company. To me that's championship, killer mentality. To kick em while they were down in game 3 is something I have grown not to expect from this group in years past. Yet now its becoming a common occurrence. It is very clear to me that this team doesn't just want to win, they want to be the best.

babcock when coaching junior back in the day, handing out concussions instead of psychological torture. Ah simpler times

edit: I guess his chant would be “it’s not worth winning if you can’t win by a solitary goal while suppressing your players offensive talent” not as catchy I guess

We just scored 6 goals, and 13 in the 3-game set. We're the #1 offensive team in the league, and the #1 overall team in the league, as a team with multiple superstars. Your claim is baseless.

Limiting the oppositions zone time and allowing the opposition low quality chances, taking away possession creating transitions. Well sir, I'd say is the epitome of defense, those change of possessions/transitions lead to offensive chances.

Lucky for LeafsNation is the fact that the team is blessed with a lot of not only elite offensive talent who can score off the rush, but some real hard workers who know how to keep possession in the Ozone by cycling the puck that creates some grease in the crease.

If the Leafs can't defend then the only way to take possession is by winning face-offs, but because they can defend that creates takeaways

it's all interwoven, like the song says "you can't have one without the other"

I think it's not just that the Leafs are winning, it's how. They're starting to put together consistency in dominance, and the confidence of the group is growing. A lot of buy in to Keefe and the system, and they look fantastic. A lot of good things that should translate to playoff success if they keep up the effort.

That being said, we all know the proof will be playoff time. With how the competition is stacking up in the division, the Leafs should be expected to make it to the third round. But we've seen the Leafs fall to the pressure before, so let's just hope this regular season success isn't going to their heads. Long ways to go.

This sure if fun though so far :D

I'm not saying that defense isn't important or helpful. I'm merely countering that individual's false, repeated claims about defense, offense, and the importance/impact of superstars, especially since our situation literally supports the opposite of his claim.

Perfect recipe coming up for a letdown boys. Tough travel schedule to Vancouver against a rested team.

And the crazy thing is I really don't care if they lose tonight. The Leafs have an insane lead on the division right now.

Pettersson is probably looking forward to play against our third line and "mediocre" defense.
NOT.

Last week Oiler fans were defending the division. This week, it's the weakest division ever. I wonder why.

I always knew this season would be hardest on the Pacific division teams. The Pacific has long been by far the weakest division in hockey, and EDM/CGY/VAN have all been made to look better than they were.

The North division is BETTER than the Pacific division was. They only had one good team in VGK to play in the pacifjc and 4 weak sisters in LA SJ ANA ARZ. Now they have 2-3 good teams in TOR, WPG, MTL and only 1 weak sister in OTT.

It's no surprise that the 3 Atlantic and 1 Central teams are doing better in the North division, while the 3 Pacific teams are doing worse.

Brodie great dman , the best partner for Morgan since Hainsey
Covers for Morgan.
BOGO simple and great
Holl keeps getting better
Muzzin is a stud

We finally have great veteran dman to teach our young defenceman how to keep it simple.

and I'm saying they go hand in hand, do you remember how long it took the Capitals to finally get over the hump? A balls to the wall offensive team for years that couldn't get to the final until they learned that taking care of their own end was just as important as burying their chances. All defense Nashville couldn't break through until they learned sitting back and preventing goals wasn't the key to taking home all the marbles.

All offense is certainly entertaining and it can win you lots of games, but without defense you go nowhere, the previous 4 years is proof of that

theres a reason every coach in the game stresses defense and that from defense springs the offense

the balance between offense and defense is important all the champions have it

Leafs seem more comfortable not chasing the game in the Calgary and Edmonton series. Keep plugging away, weathering the storm and then letting the offense develop as the opposition breaks down.

For some reason the Pacific gets a high rep because of how tough the California teams were several years ago. Now that the Western Canadian teams are winning in that division, they're somehow getting credibility despite the Cali teams have clearly aged and are now rebuilding.

Hyman shows the way sign him
Mik and Engvall follow his lead.

Nylander getting more involved keep it up.

Spezza leads our 4th line by his play

We're seeing a lot of maturity and composure coming to the team, that we haven't seen in previous years.

It's nice to see. And is important in the playoffs.

It’s refreshing that they’ve purged the team of a lot of those high skill but skittish defensemen like Barrie and Gardiner. Guys like Holl, Bogosian and especially Brodie can handle the uncomfortable moments in a game with a lot more composure. Also having a beefier D core of Muzzin, Holl and Bogosian really helps with the heavier traffic teams direct towards the Leaf net.

Toronto fans always had this strange idea, going back decades, that the Leafs were never gritty enough.

When it's been obvious that they've never truly had the elite talent to be a cup favorite, before now.

Not necessarily an "either-or" situation.
