Mikheyev outraced him to add to the pain

Jets fans talking big smack on their board. Looking forward to laying an ass whooping on them too.
Winnipeg is basically what people who hate Toronto think the Leafs are. They've gotten 213 high danger chances and have given up 278, which is the worst differential in the league. Their goalies are making them look way better than they actually are

Problem is..Hellebuyck IS that good though, but I do think we’re still better overall. Let’s see how that series goes. I hope we can take 2 out 3.

As a Leaf fan, I've seen this team ram it's hand into my chest, and show me my still beating heart after yanking it out. And being the center of the hockey universe, has meant all other fan bases taking turns rubbing salt into the wound. Any concept of revenge however is displaced by having some class and empathy. But it really is amazing how brutal some of these other fan bases are when they lose to the Leafs. What's amazing, they're not even analyzing their team and what's going wrong, they're attacking Leaf players, fans, history, etc. I know our pot boils over too, but nothing to this degree.

Now that Laine/Matthews crap is over (and that was way more Finn driven), I find it is pretty much calmed down between the two. Oilers get on my nerves way more.

Jets fans are fine, there's a couple who frequent the main boards who are pretty good. I cannot bring myself to ever root for that team ever though. 10 years is still too soon.

Oilers fans are a playoffs series loss to Toronto away from going full postal.

This division has surprised me with how many fans of teams I barely think about just deeply hate us. Is the Toronto hate a Canadian thing? Because it seems like it's a Canadian thing. That's a genuine question. I'm stateside.

I know two Jets fans from the mains who I get along with really well, and constantly talk with. I get your pain about the Thrashers, can't imagine losing a team.

As for the hating Toronto thing. Yeah, imagine the hate NYC or LA teams get combined. The GTA/Golden Horseshoe essentially makes up more than Southern California and Tri-state area combined relative population-wise for Canada. It'd basically be it the whole North-East megaopolis (Boston to DC) was one market when it comes to news and media coverage. Any country which has that significant a portion of its population located in one city (like London or Paris for their countries) gets significant backlash, its a very known phenomenon. Not only that, but it is magnified by the fact that the 2nd largest population is split language wise, which gives them their own news media outlets (and makes English national media less likely to cover it). The Golden Horseshoe (which Toronto is the center of) accounts for almost 1/3 of the Anglophone population in Canada. So, I get it on some levels, due to the market, Leafs are always going to get more coverage by national media. We are almost always the primary Hockey Night in Canada game, we are almost always the first story on Sportscenter, etc. So even if opposing fans get or acknowledge the market forces that cause this, it is still irritating. The downside for the Leafs though is, when it comes to broadcasting games, our games are almost always broadcasted as neutral affairs (why Joe Bowen was removed) due to so many games being national or split broadcasts. Hope that helps.

Hell, Alberta had a political movement called Western Alienation due to how much stuff was focused on Southern Ontario/Ontario in general.

Yes it's a Canadian thing.

Toronto is so hated by the rest of Canada (so the stories go), that it's almost meme worthy.

Now throw in their status as the center of the hockey universe (again, so the story goes) and you end up with an almost complete hatred for the Leafs.

Some fans are obviously more rabid than others but it's a common thing

Oilers media want Hyman for their team.

They can try but I'd be shocked if Hyman left. He demanded a trade to be here years back and bleeds blue and white. He's one of the few guys who I'd think would take a pretty large hometown discount. Some GM will offer something stupid for him, say, $6 million/year or more long-term. If he can get that, or more, good for him, but I wouldn't move heaven and earth at that pricetag.
