Value of: Pageau at this trade deadline

Will take cap dumps, If it means higher picks or NHL ready\close to jump in prospects. Nelson, Pageau, Palmieri would be all solid adds for a playoff team. And so would Pulock, Pelech & Mayfield, but all these ntc's\nmc's will fk us over badly in deals. Not expecting anything.

Not with multiple years left we won’t.

I’d be shocked if a team gives up a first for Pageau. His offense had falling off a cliff. He’s great at faceoffs, playing defensively, and killing penalties but to get a first you usually have to have good enough offensive numbers with that type of bottom 6 player. Only having another year left on his deal isn’t enough to justify the first either.

As much as I agree about his value not being a 1st, his offense this year is on pace to be the same as every year since the outlier year....and I am just as surprised as you are reading this as I was writing it.

30 in 57 this year
33 in 82 last year
40 in 70 two years ago
39 in 77 three years ago

Is he worth more at this deadline with a year left on his contract or as a rental next deadline? - Assuming his play stays consistent.

Pageau is no longer a center - he's a winger who can take faceoffs. Also, he's not a top penalty killer anymore. He is overmatched defending down low. He's regained a bit of his scoring touch that he lost from the wrist injury. But he's just not the buzz saw battler he used to be. He's overmatched in puck battles, and can get pushed around pretty easily.

My thought is that nobody will take him without retention, and nobody is going to pay the asset of cost of salary retention. That's why I don't see him moving.

(BTW I am a NYI fan, and I was a big fan of his game prior to his wrist injury.)

And let's not overlook the team that Pageau plays for. The Isles are bottom 5 in goals scored. He'd certainly be performing better offensively on almost any other team in the league (if given the chance to be traded to one by Kim Jong Lou).

Habs fan here.

I'd like the Habs to trade for him.

He'd be a super replacement for Evans, if the latter is traded.

A heart and soul RHC, great at doing "all the small things", local guy, yep, I like that...

A 2nd and a c prospect (Trudeau, Mesar, Tuch, smtg like that) would be my offer.

Will be interesting to see where the following guys end up as they are all similar in use situations in the league as 3rd /4th line centres.

Pageu
Evans
Kunin

A Pageau / Pulock package for the Leafs fills a lot of needs. I would be willing to move basically any prospect and our 2026 first. Just seems like too big of a deal to make at the TDL

What about Lee?
Really hard for me to gauge Lee’s value right now. He’s made for the playoffs, a captain with experience making deep runs on pace for 30 goals and 60ish points, but he’s 34 with another year on his contract at 7M. Isles would not want to retain.

I think ultimately if there’s a team looking to make two cup runs he’s probably worth a first and a lesser player with some salary coming back. There’s only really a specific few teams that I think that would make sense for though, and he’s got a 15 team no trade list so probably not going to Canada.

With one more year he would be a perfect stopgap for the Habs
Pageau and Lee who both have an extra but with 1/2 the league trade protection, NYI will have to decide if a TDL this season, an off-season trade (more suitors), or '26 TDL makes the most sense.

Nelson/Palmeri, who are due to be UFA should get moved. Isles need a refresh on their roster.

As impaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaact said, hard to gauge his value.

A year ago on this board if an Isles fan said "Lee is available" you'd get a ton of "LOL YOU'D HAVE TO PAY TO MOVE HIM, GIVE US YOUR 1ST" responses but now he's basically a 30 goal scorer with a year left at 7m, which is digestible and even more so with slight retention. Plus he's quadzilla so he's the type of player that you want in the playoffs.

Still, no idea the value he'd return

Basically, this. Get these rental deals done, and then focus on hockey trades involving roster players for next season. It's hard to imagine those coming up before the deadline because people don't like to get tied down to salaries for aging players now without knowing more about their rosters going forward.

Nelson/Palmeri easy to move. Some PO teams may want Lee/Pageau, but managing the cap for next season might be too much for them and/or the Isles may not want to retain. For those 2, an off-season move to a 6-16th worst team might make more sense rather than try to force a '25 TDL move.
I don't think they'd waive to a bad Chi/SJ team, but maybe to some of the other clubs they might.

Think he would be a good fit on Ottawa's 3rd line if they are trying to make the playoffs.

If his play has dropped off, then he may be more of an off-season trade to a non playoff team who needs veteran players and would rather move a mid round pick for his remaining 1 year rather than give 3 year term to someone else. As weaker clubs end up paying a premium to convince veterans to sign with them.

Roy loves Pageau and would probably like to keep him around if nelson and palms are moved .

He's been a really good mentor for Holmstrom
