i wonder if we could grab someone like Rantanen or Marner for just a couple of seasons, then they can go to FA when the cap is at like 110 mil and they can cash in big for their probable last contract.

I think as a professional athlete you have to be okay with some level of pressure, that's normal. What goes on in Toronto is not a normal level of pressure, lol.

I would take Marner on this team for anything under 15mil a year. The guy is electric and I think he’s VERY unfairly scrutinized because he plays in Toronto.

Shooting percentage is down five points and I would be curious who he is playing with. He would lead our forwards in hits pretty comfortably and i would love him anywhere in the lineup.

So Max Jones gets to play with Corey Perry finally ? I remember in the 2016 draft they were comparing him to Perry especially given the dirty reputation he had in the OHL at the time with various suspensions. Jones ended up actually being a really nice guy and not a dirty player at all at the NHL level.

Yeah I remember those comparisons too. He just has nowhere near the level of IQ required to score in the NHL. And while he’s a big, strong, and fast guy he loses a ton of battles against smaller players. It’s crazy

That makes sense re: retaining salary. I do wish he would squeeze a little bit more but I guess we don't really know if other teams were willing to take Trouba, too.

He had one shift in his first year where he was a one-man forechecking machine and everyone's eyes lit up. We thought we had a legitimate second line power forward.

Not a criticism but why would you want to pay an inflated TDL price for a pending UFA?

All depends on return. If Beeker has a price in mind and its not being met, that explains why hes still here. Could be using the TDL or even the draft as motivators to drive up the price.
