I was talking in the game day thread. The game they almost blew because they stopped playing and needed to go to round 7 of the shootout. Against the Devils who are not very good. I hate to break this to you kid but this team ain't the 70's Canadiens you want them to be. The difference between you and I is that I see the forest for the trees. I'm interested in the long view and you can't see past today.
DIG. THOSE. HEELS. IN! Never change, when they come at you, attack attack!

Devils were 7-4-2 coming into that game. No they're not great but they're not ass either. They just took care of the Panthers recently.

They're managing to find ways to win despite not paying even close to their best hockey yet. You're undervaluing how huge that is.

I mean they had three forwards in deep on the forecheck on the tying goal. It's not like they completely abandoned their game. I thought they were actually doing a good job shutting down NJ until they got caught making a mistake at the end.

Devils are much much better than I expected ( offensively at the least ). All the metro teams right now are playing well. There's no easy games.

Panarin backchecked on at least two plays....the message is getting through slow but sure . I thought it was an improved performance by the team.....progress is being made .

For sure. I understand the frustration with the more passive play, but most teams in the NHL do that regularly and all do it sometimes. It's like in the NFL kicking field goals on fourth and inches or playing prevent defense for the final ten minutes, parking the bus in soccer, etc. Teams would rather be burned playing cautiously than aggressively. Playing "our game" we allowed several odd-man rushes throughout. No guarantee that had we continued our prior level of pressure that the result would be any different.

I thought they were doing really well. Unfortunately they got caught and Rooney didn't finish his backcheck and that was that. Could have happened just as easily if we weren't just doing chip and chase every turn.

I think the assumption that they have better hockey to play is just that at this time, an assumption. It's a been a month now, when does the "best" hockey start?

yes, you are certainly special.

Again....you will never find where I say they are playing well....just that we are accumulating very important points. Confidence builds, and we get better. Winning does that.

Sooo...now that they win, you are qualifying it by talking about a shootout. I ask you directly....and its a yes or no answer.....are you happy they won last night? Dont make any qualifiers (like they did it in a shootout....or they blew a third period late)....just a yes or no answer.

You’re not wrong that it’s a big assumption, but your second sentence is pretty silly. Were you sleeping thru the first 3 months of 2013-2014?

I’d say so far this team has looked nowhere near as horrible as they did in the beginning of AVs tenure. Like, not even close.

I won't be happy until they play the right way.

I get what you're saying about 2013-2014 but that was a different team. I only care about now. What the 2013-2014 team did is not indicative of anything this team does. Because if we are going to use that argument I could point to other Rangers teams during the Henrik era that started out similarly, faded, struggled to make the playoffs and then lost in the first round.

Sooo…you’re not happy with wins unless they play the way you want them to. Gotcha. And if they win….and don’t play the way you like, you are disappointed or not happy.

you know…science is a strange thing…for many, many years, people were lead to believe that the Earth revolved around the Sun….who knew that all this time, it all revolves around you…

But their hockey has improved. A big part that has been lacking is their star players playing like stars. Panarin is starting to do that.

Nice, we actually got worse.

I think you are misremembering the 13-14 team. The first 5 games were rough but after that they started taking games over. Then had a rough stretch in early December before they became the team that made the final.

Fox also got caught pinching on the first goal.

It's an uncharacteristic slip up from him on a miscommunication with Kreider. It's hard to be mad when he's basically the best player on the ice every night, and ended up scoring to "erase" the mistake later in the game.

They could have won that one 3-1. And that's with Georgiev in net.

They're 9-3-3 in the best division in hockey under a new coaching staff and this thread is still chuggin' along. I KNOW THE DELUGE IS COMING!!! MY CHARTS!!!

And what's so damn annoying with the multitude of fancy stats for this, that, and the other is if they go through a rough stretch it's "I told you so!" and if they keep cruising along there will always be something to point to to say "see, they still suck"!

I'll stick with good, old fashioned wins. It's hard to consistently win in a game where you bandy about a bouncy rubber object along a sheet of ice, so when a team continues to find ways to amass lots of them I tend to be impressed. Typically the teams with lots of 'em go to the playoffs and play for the prize, which would be so cool if they are able to do after committing to a rebuild.

Bravo!

Yes Panarin is starting to get it back going which is good to see.

What wasn’t good to see? Up one goal, cold goalie in the opposing net, one shot against, tie game with 2 minutes to go. Completely turtled and they ended up giving a point to the team right behind them in the standings.

This is said in good faith: 2023-2024 is when it STARTS. That will be the very earliest where teams are looking at the schedule, see us, and know they need to prepare (like teams do today against CAR, FLO, TBL, whatever Western team is good at the moment). Not December of this year, or Feb, or next year. Any success in between is a bonus.

If WE are concerned with giving a point to Jersey then we have no business even thinking about the PO's. Their point means NOTHING to us.

How in the hell is anyone going to be concerned with "letting NJ get a point" on NOVEMBER 14TH. I sincerely hope that's a good bit of humor.
