When you see that the relatively useless Edmundsson got a 3rd and a 5th, it makes you wonder what a healthy Seeler could have got back. They could have always signed him on July 1st.

Because they did not want to risk losing him during FA period or him signing with his new team. Same as when Holmgren didnt pick Bjorkstrand (or Guentzel or Duclair or Verhaghe or Buchnevich) in the 3rd round 2013 because he did not feel like Goulbourne would be there in the 5th, but I digress.

Looks like they got a lot, but no actual quality assets. Conditional picks and B and C prospects. Pretty meh for such a good player.

At the time of my original post it was speculated they at least got Blake among the prospects. Still, Koivunen looks pretty good. I would take a B prospect and conditional 2nd-1st for Laughton.

I remember I was pissed because I wanted duclair and or buchnevich lol never did i think buch would be as good as he's been

Very underwhelming.
Yeah, it's not great, but as of now, he's truly only a rental. Tough to get a good haul for a rental.

Most likely, that first becomes a second, which was our, and the Pens will somehow find the next
Bergeron or Kucherov with that pick

Guentzel was only a rental, but he's a heck of a player.

I expected him to garner more than a 2nd rd pick, a 3rd liner with an unappealing contract, and a few second-tier prospects.

Reinforces how lucky we were to get Tippett and a 1st rd pick for an expiring Giroux.

I wonder if there is a concern he won't play well outside of the Malkins and Crosbys of the world or that they just weren't looking to give up that much for a rental?
I think it shows that trade prices for rentals aren't what they used to be.

Gotta imagine a number of teams were interested in Guentzel, and that was apparently the best they could get.

I don't want them to get a backup. Roll with what you got...maybe get Kolosov some games towards the end.

I'm think Pens painted themselves into a corner by wanting prospects and not just picks.

When a team wants immediate help over waiting years on a prospect/pick it significantly reduces upside to deliver immediate help with less risk, but less possible reward.

Baseball teams can do this, but when you look at the most "lopsided" deals it almost always is because a team traded for a guy who was much further away and carried more risk.

They want to win another cup with Crosby/Malkin/Letang

I feel like there will be rumors on Laughton swirling today. With Guentzel off the board, I think there’s a few teams worried about missing out on a top nine reinforcement.

I think we're in for a slow deadline day, both in terms of the Flyers and the league in general. Listening to NHL Network Radio and unless I've missed something it sounds pretty quiet.
