We do miss that one timer on the PP though. Pettersson would look good there.
Do we really miss it, though?

The PP has IMO looked WAY better since Rantanen left and I don't think it's a coincidence when Mikko got so used to standing around in the corner waiting for one-time passes and kept turning pucks over.

They actually started to move around on the PP and are less predictable. That's all it needed really, the skill on the ice will take care of rest.

Mikko just stood there on his spot. That's not good enough no matter how good his one timer is.

I feel like Necas is playing the traditional MacKinnon role, and Nate has become more of a roamer on the PP. Seems like MacKinnon is cycling all over the ice more and is actually looking to dish his cross ice pass back to his old haunt for Necas to one-time now.

Those first couple of PPs were hilarious tho, with the two of them shadowing each other and literally just skating and standing side by side for stretches. Reminded me of that Spiderman meme with them pointing at each other.

And it has worked really well. Teams can't just expect the usual cross ice pass to Rantanen which everyone in the building knows is coming.

The first couple of games it looked like MacKinnon and Necas were in each other's way quite a bit. Somewhat expected as they are very similar, Nate just has that power element to his game.

It's hilarious..

Like oh shit, why is Mack next to me now? Where did he go? Oh shit Necas has the puck, oh shit Makar, oh shit..

Necas is getting sneaky around the net now too. He was the screen on Makar's goal, and scored on a Mack deflection. He's not standing in there in one spot, but if he reads a shot coming he'll disrupt the goalies eyes or lineup to deflect it back door.

About the only thing he was doing that was driving me nuts was when he'd just go stand next to the net. Not in position to deflect or get in the goalies eyes lol.

Assuming Necas can maintain the same level of play away from Mack as he can with or if he can also play 2C then what kind of salary do you think he’d command with the cap going up? That kind of versatility at that level is something you don’t often see.
With the preset cap growth I think we will be looking at completely different market this summer. If Necas doesn't get injured, the chemistry between him and the rest of the team can only grow. I hope that he doesn't price himself out of the team, because the first nine game sample his fit in Colorado was a marvel to watch. ... And/or if he does, I hope that he will be clever enough to realize that this kind of chemistry is one in a lifetime kind of thing and accepts a discount. I would love to see him playing with MacK and company for years to come.

Sakic should have made Carolina include Aho in the deal. Imagine getting both Necas and Aho in the deal? Rants is a 100 plus point player and we wanted we could have gotten even more then we agreed.
Ain't you a bit greedy, bro? Necas, under MacK's wings can quite easily become a 100 point per season player too. He got 70 last season, in a defense-first system. He is at point-per-game right now. And was in Carolina too. Is there any reason he should slow down in the time to come?

The wheels and skill are here to stay. Especially with the skating Necas is in elite company.

Just makes you wonder why the Canes were so hellbent on trading the guy. They been shopping him for some time now.
He didn't fit Rod's system. If I stretch it a bit, I think Rod hates his guts. Why? Don't have the foggiest. Necas was a loyal soldier to the end. In fact, he carried the Canes the first couple of months this season.
