I have to admit I didn’t see that coming from you.

Mikko has been dragging ass all season, hasn’t been able to carry a line, and wanted 14m per year.

Necas is 3 years younger, signed through next season, and get this… was Carolina’s leading scorer with 55 points in 49 games and has CARRIED HIS OWN LINE. His center has been f***ing Kotkaniemi and he’s 11th in the league in points.

One of the fastest skaters in the league, he goes from Kotkaniemi to likely MacKinnon as his center. Him and Nate will be absolutely flying past opponents. If he could put up 9 less points than Mikko this year playing 6 less minutes per game and next to Kotkaniemi, imagine what he will do with Nate. Mikko was also feasting on empty net points.

Drury is a solid hockey player. Finally a guy to win draws. Very solid defensively. Tenacious forechecker. Strong PKer. A natural center unlike Kelly and other dudes we have forced into the role.

Draft capital will help in deadline acquisitions.

If Mikko truly wanted 14m per season, I actually love this trade.
We were never going to "win" a Rantanen trade.

All we could do was to minimize damage. This trade was a much better option than letting him walk next summer or re-upping him to 14M X 8.

So in that sense it's a big win.

Shouldn't we be able to activate Landy now?

If capwages can be trusted we've got $5,679,000 in cap space right now. So we're about 1,321,000 short. Kylington to LTIR would open up a tad over 1M. Landy being active means someone gets sent down...Wagner or Innala would atually open up enough. Or what am I missing?

You know what this trade reminds me of? Avs/Kings 2001. Mikko playing the role of Rob Blake, Necas the role of Adam Deadmarsh and Drury the role of Aaron Miller.

Here's to hoping Necas can dominate in Denver and Mikko doesn't finish with the cup (unless the Avs don't win, then by all means go win it)

That's really what it came down to.

Very mixed emotions, but I'm ok with this, as long as CMac spoke personally with Mikko at the last minute, to avoid his agent bluffing his way into something Mikko didn't want, and said something along the lines of...

"We love you Mikko, but we honestly can't re-sign you to more than $12.6M. We're sorry to have to give you an ultimatum, but we have an offer on the table for you that we're willing to take, and we can't wait. We need you to decide today if you're willing to accept $12.6M for whatever term you like, otherwise we'll need to trade you."

We’re in a position to compete for the cup before Nate gets old and regresses. If CMac doesn’t fix the 2C issue and the defense, we will be in deeper shit. Mikko was the only pure sniper we had, I guess Nate is too if he shoots the puck more, but we have so many pass first players and Necas is another one. We gonna lose significant goal production without Mikko.

We aren’t a rebuilding team to worry about future cap problems. We need to win now, and for now at this moment, we are a much worse team, but again, I don’t believe CMac is done. He can’t be done, there should be more to come
It's clear that management doesn't believe that this season is their last shot at the cup. That trade buys them at the very least one more ticket. If Rants walks for nothing or makes 14M next season it's over.

I want a Carolina Avs final now

Or or or...it went something like this:

Fire CMac. Thats the best you can do eh. More better be coming because this aint it chief. You traded a top 3 winger for Drury and Necas.

Brah, usually I'm on your team, but.. Give Casper a hug for me.

I'll take the hit if Necas sucks, but this is better than losing Mikko for nothing, and riding him for a post season run.

IMO

Every year counts for the Avs because Nate is almost 30. I’m not completely giving up on this season before I see what other moves are made. I still have faith that CMac will make the right moves
