Just my perspective but Friedman has been Eklund 2.0 this year. He’s just been spouting off things that you could get from reading local sports pages/sites for various teams. Didn’t see him knowing anything on Pettersson resigning with Vancouver; the Flyers moving Gauthier and so forth. Even his chatter on the Flames moves were no brainers. Granted that getting inside information on team moves is difficult but he’s been out of touch all year

The Canucks were so far into trade negotiations with one team that they went back to Pettersson and said negotiate now or we’re trading you now.

No one knew about Gauthier.

None of this makes any sense.

They could pick up someone like Mike Reilly next season if they don't like their LD depth. I don't imagine he'd be asking for anything close to 4x$4MM, if that is accurate.

I hate everything about the way Seeler is playing out. He hung around forever making peanuts, finally breaks out into a legitimately good NHL depth piece, and has a chance to cash in and take care of his family for life. In a normal non-contending org, that guy hits the market, takes the highest bid, and we’re all happy for him. This dumpster fire won’t even give us that simple feel good moment.

I think they’re deciding between Walker and Risto. Given those choices, I’d choose Walker too.
Maybe so, but we and the entire hockey world can see that sequence. After having made his roster spot redundant, a GM who needs to shed a 3rd-pairing Dman with a significant injury history earning $5.1 million for 3 more years is adding to the deal rather than garnering assets.

They "Can't" trade Risto, he's worthless.

And also why do they have to extend them now while being held over a barrel ?

Wait till they miss the playoffs at least before committing long term to role players.

John Cain is a Jets fan?

They’re potentially doing this knowing they likely have a big extension needed to retain Konecny too. You have Tippett jumping high next season too. So you know guys like Foerster are probably gonna get bridged to make up for savings.

I’m doing my best to reserve judgment until after the trade deadline but I can’t help feeling this is going to be another shitty/stupid TDL.
I’m trying to remain optimistic as well. But it’s getting tough.

It started out promising. It seemed like even Torts was on the same page as Danny and Jones that our goals were long term and our time horizon was several seasons in the future…

It’s been trending towards troubling for the past week and now it’s like DEFCON 1 and alarm bells are ringing everywhere. Laughton hasn’t been mentioned in a credible rumor in 2+ weeks, all the talking heads have moved on from talking about Seeler and Walker’s price in a trade to giving updates on how close their extensions are. And we’re even talking about buying a forward or a backup goalie.

I’m still trying to give Briere the benefit of the doubt but f*ck it’s getting tough.

Flyers have a terrible PP and are down two RHD.

The Canes have made Angelo available for a 5th.

So does Briere add a familiar face to help chase the playoff dream? I assume it's legal under the CBA to trade for a player you bought out.

It is. In fact, there’s a mechanism where you can buy out a player and sign him back in the same offseason. The Flames did it with Michael Stone.
