My issue with Jonesy on the broadcasts were his 'breakdowns' of play. I am not saying I'm a wizard when it comes to breaking down play, but I do believe I have a decent-to-good level of knowledge about hockey systems/play/skills etc. I never once learned anything from Jonesy during his breakdowns, always very surficial. As much as I hated Pierre McGuire, or Eddie O, they would at least have a decent breakdown from time to time. The problem here is that I am fairly confident that Jonesy can take me to task when it comes to overall hockey knowledge - it just never came out IMO.

However, he was funny and always had a line ready to go.
My issue is that he would slurp physical guys no matter how many dumb mistakes they made, while singling out certain skill players for constant criticism. It's not surprising Meltzer confirmed this season that PoHo did not like Frost as a player.

That was my complaint with Jonesy as a TV analyst.

He would not go into much detail in breaking down plays, especially mistakes.

I don’t think it was a matter of not seeing what was going on, but rather he knew he was an employee of the team & had to travel with the players/coaches, so kept a lot of things to himself.

Boucher is the better analyst because he’s more willing to dissect a play & point out who made mistakes. Hopefully the organization & network don’t silence him.

Can agree Boston sucks, Jack Edward's is insufferable, his voice alone makes me want to suck start a shotgun "rockem sockem time" "A huge green light hit" idk how that fan base loves him so much

Well they needed 2 guys who would make sure to keep torts, and would be good boys and listen. The other options out there aren't desperate enough to allow this to happen

Don't forget pronger even said the power structure within the franchise is weird and made absolutely no sense
I did forget about the Pronger comment!

If you're an organization that believes in it's process, Seeler is a success story, he was ostensibly out of the league for two years before he signed here. He's on a two-way deal this season. We've seen this before with guys like Nick Schultz who was re-signed unnecessarily because he became a 'culture fit' and a 'guy that worked,' instead of feeling compelled to keep him here and giving him more money, they should have the confidence to do it again.

With the cap supposedly going up Seeler is definitely worth 3yr x 3.

He's at top of legue in blocked shots, good on the PK, isn't made out of glass, brings some grit and is a really solid bottom pairing guy who can eat some minutes

I am fully aware. But he still has the right to refuse to sign a contract, sit out a year, and then test the open markets (I believe that's the rule, anyone check me on that?). He'll still command 12M/year at that time as well. If you're Vancouver, you have to entertain that possibility, particularly if you've offered him a 12M/8-year contract.

Funny thing is now...pretty sure this is out there to all teams...so his value is going to now be lower...they really should have moved these guys earlier in the season
This x 1000. Contending teams now know there is ZERO chance to sign him.

This front office is such Mickey Mouse.

Are we taking bets if Seeler will have a spot here as a “development guy” once he retires?
Maybe when his 5 year extension expires. Wizard Danny will add few extra years to keep the cap doewn.

There's no evidence that that has an effect. There's barely ever any trades of consequence in this league before the trade deadline, except for Jim Rutherford.

In all honesty though, the Canucks don't hold a lot of cards if he doesn't want to be there so I doubt the cost would be THAT high. I have no idea what they would want but you accumulate the assets to use them strategically so trading firsts (especially if we are able to acquire more firsts elsewhere) or unproven prospects isn't a terrible idea if you are getting a guy of Pettersson's caliber. He's a top tier center and it would all hinge on him re-signing even at $12 mil/8 years. Imagine this team in a couple years with a top six looking like this:

Farabee-Pettersson-Michkov/Konecny
XXX-Couturier/Frost-Michkov/Konecny

Fill in that XXX on the left with another signing or draft pick or trade or maybe Frost or Foerster can move to that LW spot?

Then your defense has Drysdale/York/Sanheim leading the way with maybe another draft pick or signing there.

Hard to argue with that if it were doable. Now if they want Michkov or three years of first rounders, then it is not happening, but if he is saying he is out of Vancouver they don't have a lot of options.
