I don't know what this means, but I'm going to get mad, aren't I?
There's been rumbling about Pettersson all year. He's been saying he wants to wait until the summer to discuss contracts. He also was reportedly offered a $12M/8Year deal.

He’s not going anywhere
You're probably right. But you'd probably agree that it's a bit odd (and concerning for some) that a 25-year old 1C, one of the best centers in the league, has not signed a deal long-term. That's atypical - not saying it hasn't happened, but typically these players get signed quickly to avoid this situation.

He’s still RFA anyways.

Damning with faint praise, there.
If you ask anyone around WIP, the Flyers, Flyers Training Center...they will all tell you Briere and Jones are the nicest people ever and are amazing to work with. You can say what you want about their work, but in terms of being approachable and good to fans, I appreciate that.

I think Danny also plays pickup in a rental from time to time in the offseason with a few people I know

I am fully aware. But he still has the right to refuse to sign a contract, sit out a year, and then test the open markets (I believe that's the rule, anyone check me on that?). He'll still command 12M/year at that time as well. If you're Vancouver, you have to entertain that possibility, particularly if you've offered him a 12M/8-year contract.

Oh ok. I thought maybe something new had come out about him being shopped.

He’s arbitration eligible, so technically not. Though I suppose if it got to arbitration, that would be a problem.

I don’t sense there’s a problem though, just writers looking for clicks entertaining the thought. The season isn’t even over yet. Seems more like the Canucks are negotiating themselves into a corner being desperate before they have to be.

I don't believe this is true anymore. The season wouldn't count towards the seven he needs, and he would be 26 on July 1 and therefore still RFA. Although it would be significantly less salary for the year, if he wants out and they won't trade him, the better play is to sign his $8,820,000 QO and go UFA after next season.

Authentics love him. I don't find his PR bullshit likable at all.
What's not to love about Jonesy? There's plenty of reason to complain about any number of the figureheads in any of this city's sports teams or sports media, but Jonesy is about as down to earth and cool as one can be. I have waited on him before when he came into the restaurant I used to work at on LBI and I met him several times at Phillies games. He is the exact same in real life as he is on the radio and TV.

Jojo, don't make me blow a gasket this early in the morning.

To be clear, we don’t and likely won’t ever know the full truth about what was possible at various times in the Pettersson saga. We also don’t know whether Vancouver loves Gauthier or just likes him.

If he wanted to sign and the offer is as big as rumored, it makes no sense whatsoever to wait. Maybe the offer is significantly lower. I sure don’t know. I mostly just wanted to voice the thoughts I’ve had for a while before any actual deals could be rumored. It’s not hindsight for me. Pettersson’s potential availability is a franchise warping event. If you throw that away for Jamie Drysdale, well…yeah.

Before anyone yells at that last bit, I said If. That means I’m acknowledging that I have no way of knowing the truth. The thought process behind front offices interests me and influences my opinion of them far more than whether a guy they traded for puts up 30 Goals or not.

He's a very nice man who also helped make watching Flyers (and national) games a miserable experience. I don't think anyone is calling him names unless I just can't see those posts.

He's the inverse Larry Andersen.

See I always liked his calls for hockey..

As per WIP, I think Angelo was the biggest grifter this city has ever seen, he mad fans in this city mad at the wrong things….Jonesy made that show listenable for me

Exactly. I like his personality, but he was insufferable on the broadcast. That made me not like him

I have no clue how people on this board, whom are very knowledgeable, can not hate everyone on the Flyers broadcast. They blow so much smoke up your ass constantly

I was an out of market fan my whole life, hell I watched a lot of games at 1am start in Italy…had to suffer through times where I could only watch the Flyers on NESN or MSG or whatever the NHL package gave me before you could select home or away.

All of the local broadcasts can be considered homers tbh, some sound better and are produced than others lol.

(I recently just moved full time to Voorhees/South Jersey area, love it here)

I want to be clear that I’m not trying to tell you what to think. If you like him as a broadcaster, great. I just think that’s a big portion of the negative reactions to him.

We can also separate them to some degree. Jackson’s a good pbp guy. Unfortunately he has opinions and they ruin the experience for me.

I grew up around diehard Rangers Devils Isles fans… let me poll them and see what they think about Jonesy
