I get Laughton has term so it’s not just a rental this year but I really don’t see the point of acquiring Monahan & him after you just paid a steep price for the former.

I just don’t see them trading Lambert either. Teams in the NHL generally just don’t trade prospects they like & think have potential to be impact players.

My guess would be they’re just looking at Walker who’s more affordable & fits more of a need for them at this point.

Hot Rod is an absolute need for Wpg. Iaffalo is on their 2nd line. He’s better than him and Barron. Bones also won’t like running Perfetti on the 4th line.

The heat is on here, they need to make a deep run this year. Bettman is here tomm meeting with the business community, the jets will add a fwd and a D man.

Anything noteworthy?
Much of the same.

Sounds like they wanted to trade Risto and sign Walker. Seems like they are working on signing Walker but could trade him still.

Not a lot on Laughton, but they think Briere could keep things intact as a reward.

I could see Briere looking at this year as lucky year and then thinking he could always trade Laughton and Risto next year if they were not in the same spot. Hopefully he sees that Risto, Walker, Laughton, Seeler, likely do not have higher values than right now.

Leino was a flash in the pan. Honestly, the last time the Flyers fleeced someone in a trade was Zhitnik for Coburn.
It was the Carter trade. Voracek alone was a win and they got a 2011 1st (Couts) and 2011 3rd (Cousins).

Carter only played 39 games for the Jackets and bitched and whined his way into another trade that ended up a 1-for-1 for Jack Johnson. The Jackets were obliterated in both Carter trades.

That was the best trade the Flyers made since Recchi for Rico/LeClair/Dionne.

If only we didn’t have to wait until Couts himself went to the coaches to say he’s better than a 3C. Between him and guys like Sharp and Bob, has to be some of the worst talent evaluation in the league.

Someone explain to me the logic of not trading Laughton. He will be turning 30 soon. By the time Michov gets here he will be 32-33-ish (which means he will have been resigned, ugh. Our prospect pool is not great. I know it was ranked #6, but the older prospects are meh.

While I 100% agree they should trade Laughton, he's a different situation than Walker/Staal/Seeler. He has affordable term and is a known and reliable commodity. I think the logic is we don't HAVE to trade him now because we can trade him later. I think they should and will trade him but the thought process is different than the other guys. Hopefully they lose every game between now and TDL and just jettison everything.

I think a positive parallel out of the Cutter situation is that Briere played hardball to not burn a year of his ELC which both sides know will be big for a player like Cutter. My hope is that Briere brings that same mentality when discussing trades now to the media while saying we need an overpay etc. It’s what you want to hear if you know he’s trading them no matter what.
