I really want to know what the asking price is for Laughton.
All the Flyers beats have in some way or another directly/indirectly said “1st round pick”.

If they’re smart, they’re probably asking teams like the rangers for a 1 and a 2, the Rangers have only offered a 2, and the hope is by the deadline they can meet in the middle.

Yeh, there are key pieces that every team really has to have to be a contender... not a fluke 1 year in Conference Semis... not 1-2 years where flirt with 100 points... but a team that will be in the mix amongst top ~8 teams in the league consistently for ~4-5 years minimum.

And it is crazy that more teams, writers etc don't speak about it... but SURELY they know that without a 1C and 1D they are going to be a ~2nd round exit team even with Michkov. Even if Farabee, Tippett, Frost, Foerster, Brink, Cates, York, Drysdale, Bonk, Andrae, Ersson etc ALL hit like the ~75th-90th centile of their potential.

Because even with great depth? 4 lines you can roll? ~6x 50 point forwards? A solid goalie? 4x top 4 Dmen?

If you don't have ~3 guys who are top tier talents, like best ~12-15 in their position in the league? Just so hard to contend vs the teams that have those gamebreakers.

Of course, you can win that way.

It's just not an easy thing to do.

They can shut me up quickly. There is a series of moves they can make that has me tilting positively in a couple weeks and on board in July.
Curious to know what those moves are.

As of now it seems like the most optimistic deadline is moving both Walker and Laughton and I don't think that's enough for me anymore to buy into their rebuild talk.

Not really, there's been pretty tangible evidence of not a damn thing changing. Look no further than Marc Staal.
Which of the defensemen in the AHL do you think are “ready” and are being hindered by not playing at the NHL level right now? I don’t see a single one. Most of them look like they aren’t even close and might need another year w/ the Phantoms tbh.

I think Marc Staal was signed to be a vet presence, teach some of the young guys, be a Torts translator and ultimately his level of play didn’t matter because the team was expecting to be in a lottery spot.

If you read between the lines and understand that they expected to be without Hart from the jump this season, it makes perfect sense.

The Staal signing only doesn’t make sense if you think a 1 year min deal was their attempt to compete (LOL) or that he’s taking valuable minutes from young player that’s ready (which also hasn’t happened).

What is everyone's belief of Farabee's ultimate upside? I thought he was breaking out this year but has on a terrible cold streak now.

I'm trying to figure it out myself in the context of fantasy. I traded kakko and Dylan Strome for him because of cap issues, combined with the thought he was having a breakout year at EV, and now a month later I'm considering moving on as my main competition just acquired Kucherov.
I think on a good team he’s a 25g-40a guy

Jonesy said something like, ‘teams will have to overpay for Laughton.’ So I wonder what the overpay means.

I would put it more like 30-30 guy, but same ballpark

It’s deadline season… I would expect Jonesy to be posturing. He’s not doing his job if he’s not trying to get the best deal out there and talk up his pieces.

Every potential buyer is happy with where they’re at, maybe they’ll make a small move if the price is right.

And every seller is listening, but for the guys with term they’re in no rush to move them. And the pending free agents? Well they might even just resign them if the trade offers aren’t good enough.

And yet somehow every deadline, there’s a flurry of moves. Some of those complacent buyers massively overpay. Some of those “in no rush” sellers panic dump players for well less than expected.

It’s all a game of poker.

Unless you’re Chuck Fletcher. Chuck tried to find out where the poker game was, made 17 calls, but nobody would tell him where it was at.

I don’t think we have to worry about that with the current GM. I think Briere and Jonesy are already at the table.

We’ll learn most everything we need to know about GM Danny between now and July 1st. I pray he passes the test, because the last time we had a GM who was competent at every facet of the job; acquiring picks, making good selections, knowing when to cut bait with aging players, contract negotiations, hiring coaches and making smart trades, his name was Keith Allen.

It's not specific moves. It's a combination that fills a checklist:

1. Clear prioritization of a sustained peak during the likely Michkov years.
2. Not giving term to depth players.
3. Moving parts they haven't clearly soured on already.

I don't think it's going to happen. But it theoretically could if you sum up the deadline, draft, and first couple of days of free agency.

Blah blah blah. I have zero interest in the “not a damn thing has changed” line.

Again, everyone loved Hextall’s plan which was to accumulate picks and stack the prospect pool. That was massively different from the Holmgren years. And the Fletcher years were certainly different (and worse). Just shut up with repeating the same line. Things are clearly different and have been under every leadership group. And it might be worse this time! Failure has been the only constant, but it’s just nonsense for likes to keep repeating this at this point.
There has only been one leadership group

I never want to see/hear about Minnesota ever again after Fletcher. That entire area of the map no longer exists to me.
What about when we get Kaprizov from them to form a russian superline?

What ya all think

Jets - Laughton, Walker
Flyers - Lambert, Habs 2nd, Schmidt

Then we retain 50% of Schmidt this year and next and send him home to Minny.
I would be over the moon if they were able to snag Lambert.

That name is popping up enough for me to believe that there is some smoke here. Briere could have the Jets bent over enough to get a deal like listed above. If the Jets could add Laughton and Walker, they could get past the one and done syndrome that has hurt fan interest with the club. Right now that is what the Jets need in order to survive in Winnipeg.

Seems like as fair a deal as the Jets could expect. They're not getting Tanev or Hanafin. Add in Laughton and their defense would have really improved.

With the way the Flyers have scouted Winnipeg's AHL team, you have to think Brad Lambert is a player the Flyers' are interested in.

Maybe they were looking at Chaz Lucius, too, before he got hurt for the rest of the season. With his injury issues, I doubt he's their top target, though.

I don't see the Flyers being too interested in Chibrikov. Maybe they'd have a passing interest in Heinola. But I would bet on Lambert being their target. If they can get him.

I think Lucius got hurt way before our scouts got there. Dude is skilled, but he's had... 3 or 4 major surgeries in the last 3 or 4 years?
