Yes. It's not a tough decision for us. It is for them though apparently. The worst thing you can do in sports is try to play the fence between competing and rebuilding - Flyers hockey for almost a decade and a half. Gotta pick a lane.

They are always obsessed with the hottest team atm. It's a weird fetish.

I'm sure that despite changing their plan every year or two, they can manage to stick to whatever this plan is until they see it through. They are paid professionals. I believe in them.

Sneaking in as a 8th seed and making the SCF? I don't think you get much more Flyers than that!

That's the dream. Just get in, baby!
Meant to refer to the process of building the team. They only have three drafted players on their active roster. They've been savvy and aggressive about acquiring NHL talent.

The Florida model involved making the highest degree of difficulty trade in years. What are the odds they both understand this and are capable of doing that?

Flyers management definitely would have saw that trade as a top line winger & defensemen for a top line winger at the time of trade. I doubt the nuances of age curve & contract value would have been factored in.

I can see how this plays out though. They are hot for centers so they will put all of their eggs into that basket and will definitely miss out on some golden opportunities to add play driving wingers that could provide the same or better impact than these centers they are chasing. *cough*Gabe Perreault*cough*

They’re basically locked into their wingers though.

I think their interaction of “it takes two to tango” relies on the shelf life of Torts. His role seems to be a bit larger than developing the team systemically. If they believe Torts will be behind the bench in 3-4 years (height of their plan seemingly) then they’ll want to take in any player that excels in his system. Seeler doesn’t put up points, he doesn’t really shut down plays the way our team leads you to believe, he’s not that great in coverage, but he does everything that torts loves, so it’s easy to plug and play. I don’t mind having players like that, but they can’t be priorities.

I don't disagree with the idea that they're locked into their wingers, but it's a wonderful example of what incompetent franchises do. I'm still looking for the first sign of agility.
Which is my principle objection to the Tippett extension and the Konecny one that we all know is coming. A rebuild should be a time of maximum flexibility so you can take advantage of every opportunity that presents itself. They've predictably taken the opposite route.

I get it wasn’t through traditional means but at the end of the day one of the teams they tout as a model in Vegas did what they did because they had a stockpile of assets & cap space so they could strike when guys like Stone, Eichel, Pietrangelo, etc. came available.

The Flyers are supposed to be rebuilding, this is absolutely the time to sit back & collect assets/capsace not just to draft but also to flexibility if someone of note comes available in the coming years. But they’re gun shy on moving depth players instead of gaining assets & capsapce from them.

They’re doing everything in their power to completely have the percentages against them & essentially just banking on blind luck instead of trying to game the system more.

They don’t want to bottom out so that closes off the highest percentage play of obtaining high end talent. The next two plays which are less likely compared to the first are draft them outside of those tops picks or acquire the said players through trade or free agency. The last option you’re likely getting them either in their prime or leaving it so you’re not even getting the earlier cheap contract years even with that. So even with those last two options you’re passing up more draft pick & capspace opportunities on depth players which should be a pretty easy choice to make.

We'll have to see how the TDL works. Unfortunately for the Flyers, there are a fair number of quality defensemen on the market; righties too. That drives down the potential return for Walker. It's not the same for centers where Henrique is the best available so Laughton should be able to draw a decent haul unless teams see him really as only a LW. Hart was the possible best trading chip but that isn't happening which is a real hit for the club. After that what the Flyers have to offer is pretty slim. Atkinson and Deslauriers are n't going to return a bag of practice pucks.
Renny its not against you. But i read it one time too much on here!

stop making excuses! Its hard, its difficult, they need to respect the locker room, Torts will stop the trade, they have a chance at the playoffs........... I CANT HEAR IT ANYMORE!

Just do what is needed to be done!!! And if you arent man enough to do it resign from your job!

WHAT THE f*** IS HAPPENING!

Yeah, the idea the Flyers aren't the Calgary Flames in this imaginary scenario is a hoot. You also have Barkov + Tkachuk making almost $20MM combined, and Briere is clear that they don't want to be built that way. They don't have a player of either caliber, don't want to pick in the range to acquire one, and don't want to accumulate the assets in the event a trade is available. The Flyers are as risk averse as it gets. When they had the chance to choose Reinhart or Ristolainen, we know how that went. At best, Bennett and Tippett were probably similar cost gambles and rewards. Florida has 5 of those, and that's maybe the 4th best one.
