I wonder if there’s a chance Michkov is coming over next season. That would make a Walker signing at least seem sensible.

I would be ok with Walker if that means Risto is a goner.

My fear is that Risto has become like herpes or a condo in Cleveland -impossible to get rid of. First it was the poor play; then the salary and term; now with these injuries. Why would a team want him or trade an asset to obtain him.

And what's the upside? He's never providing excess value on that deal. If you need a #4 or #5 reliable defenseman when you're competing then just go sign one then. It's not exactly an impossible archetype to find.
Thanks for your reply. While my preference would be to sell high on Walker, the modest but not zero upside of re-signing him is having a capable 2nd-pairing RHD who plays well with and without the puck, which this team has historically had problems doing. It's not impossible to find a good one but also not so evident that a team can do it at will. Look at whom the previous GM brought in to solve the 1st/2nd pairing RHD conundrum.

But like I said, the risk of Walker regressing while being paid more is at odds with the reward of keeping him. My previous post probably showed that I just don't know what to make of this team anymore.

Walker and Risto making 10 mill is such a Flyer move.
you forgot 8 more years of Tippett

Can’t wait for them to re-sign any possible expiring contract, squeak into the playoffs by a point, get their shit pushed in in round 1, and then try to sell us on a “new era of orange”
#maximumpain

it was always gunna be this....

Flyers have had different scouts on consecutive days tracking the Manitoba Moose and apparently Winnipeg has been scouting philly also:

Winnipeg doesn't have a first this year, wonder who the flyers are looking at? Lambert?

There are no former Flyers on the roster so not sure ... I guess maybe Luczis or McGoraty

Where would Walker rank among pending UFA RD? Looking at the list now and it seems to be relatively deep.

McGroarty is at Michigan. So as far as those specific scouting assignments with Winnipeg’s AHL team that wouldn’t be relevant to him.

Looking over their best prospects down there with Brad Lambert, Nikita Chibrikov, & Chaz Lucius they’re not really guys you would involve in a rental deal if at all. They’re all 20-21 years old, are productive in the AHL this year, & there’s recent high pick investment into all three. Beyond them there’s really nothing else there.

Ville Heinola perhaps? I don’t know what their thoughts are as he’s former first rounder but he’s 22 in the AHL & hasn’t fully cracked the NHL yet despite getting call-up’s there. I don’t know if that’s a situation where Winnipeg is looking to eject or not while they still can on a former high pick?

Maybe this is why they are looking to see what Walker's long-term price is. Maybe it is Walker + Seeler. There was one rumor from out west where a team was looking at both -- can't remember which team. This is certainly better, even if its only a tease of no one moving. lol

I thought Lambert, albeit young, has been a disappointment so far. Heinola seems to fit, a smallish, high-IQ dman.

hahaa a 22yr old reclamation project on a tweener is such Flyers move... that is prolly the guy.

#facepalm

@BigToe would commit human sacrifice if the Flyers could trade for Lambert.

Lucius seems more their type: questionable skater, about to be 21, "center." But he's out for the year.
He actually wasn’t one of my favorites that year, just thought his ceiling was super high. I highly doubt they move him or McGroarty though. Maybe we’re looking at Stanley lol.

Winnipeg/Manitoba you say?

Finally. The GOAT is coming to Philly.
