For what it’s worth, Dom L has his salary valued at 5.5m/year. But to me there are two things to account for.

1) is this the real Walker or if this just a flash in the pan?
2) even if he performs like this and is worth his contract, you need players somewhere in the lineup to overperform their salary cap…That usually comes from ELC players and 2nd contracts (even bridge contracts). If you pay him 5M, he's likely not providing surplus value.

I'm not against giving Walker a contract at UFA, but to me the smart move is to trade him and collect assets at the deadline.

That’s the concern with me as well & I generally liked him more than public perception at the time of the trade. He’s been better this year than even I expected though. But prior to this year he’s generally ranged from a good to JAG level depth defender. You are paying at an absolute peak & he is 29 so you’re paying a high price on the downside of the age curve with one season to base this off of.

Even if I was another team potentially trading for him I really wouldn’t give up a first rounder for example for the same reasons. Hopefully they do but I wouldn’t be excited about that if I was a fan of team that potentially did so.
