Its so funny that we think we have talent coming and we can grab talent in the middle of the first round or later. Tk or Frost needed years to make an impact like you need for a contender. Sanheim needed years to be believed by the franchise. But the new draft picks will be inserted in the team and be the most important Players after Mitchkov. Ersson hasnt proven anything and the young goalies in the system hasnt play one pro game in NA but we already pencil them in as good to very good goalies.....

This all seems like a really good plan

Who pissed on your chips today?

What is the actual alternative to what you just stated above? We don't pick players in the draft and give them game time?

We don't let Ersson find his feet and figure out what kind of goaltender he is?

You know the alternative. It was discussed in every thread the last 3 years and prior. Because of the wins nobody wants to hear it now. But the process is still bad and nothing has changed.

Nobody pissed on my Chips. Iam not even angry. I just stated the obvious. But if you want to ENJOY the ride. Dont let me stop you

AntSF says likely Kolosov comes over given this year of his elc is burned either way. Likely by mid March.

Also says Flyers liked Krebs in his draft year and that may be the player they eye from Buffalo

Am I missing something? Who are the Flyers trading to the 22-25-4 Sabres at the deadline?

I remember thinking the Flyers would be keen on Krebs at the draft. I've never thought Krebs is that good -- just your run-of-the-mill vanilla 3rd line upside guy. He hasn't even been that (so far), but I'm not sure there's that much more in the tank. Don't they already have enough of these types? Would it kill them to target real upside?

Marek was speculating Laughton could be of interest.. but I’m equally surprised the Sabres keep being linked. Is it because of the treasure trove of prospects? Could the Sabres be looking to change their direction a bit, and add some “proven” vet commodities? Something something culture change. From a practical standpoint, if they hit on even half their prospects, they’ll be struggling to find out room for them all in their lineup down the line.

It makes sense. For all those who complain about "culture over talent" and use the high end talent argument for tanking can also look at teams like the Sabres and Senators - who for the last few years are laden with it but can't seem to get anywhere.

It takes both. I could see them interested in Laughton for sure, and we'd want one of their prospects back IMO as he's signed for a couple more years.

Krebs for example really hasn't broken out yet and he's 22 with fairly underwhelming numbers. I'd prefer him over a late 1st.

We need high end talent! We will not have the problem that we dont hit on our draft picks from time to time! But if you pick in the middle of the 1st round you really hit with players like Frost or York! This players will not win a cup for us!

If one trusts their amateur/pro scouts, and developmental process there shouldn’t really be much fear imo.

Of course, the Flyers are highly suspect in those areas.

They have one high end pick in Matvei, a brittle top 4 guy in Drysdale - and the “rebuild” is already over.

Both sides are extreme in their stance:

No the rebuild isn't over. Far from it. But also, we have more than Matvei. Bonk and Barkey are decent-to-good prospects. We still have two picks in this draft. Foerster is looking good. Farabee is looking good. York is looking good. Couts has several years ahead of him based on his play this year. TK and Tippet the same. Brink looks serviceable. Drysdale has first pair potential and Sanheim is far better than we expected.

No, we are not a competing team this year, but there should be some excitement for this team because they've earned it without deviating from the plan. It's not like we abandoned the rebuild to be a middle team. And by all accounts, it appears that they will still sell at the deadline, which they should.

This team is VERY far away. But they are closer than they were last year, and to me, what more can you ask for?

It would definitely further the recurring theme that the Flyers want NHL pieces now instead of picks. Krebs isn't good presently, seems low upside, doesn't move the needle. I'll laugh in someone's face if they try to tell me Musty, Cowan, Nadeau, Brindley, etc. + a 2nd rounder is a worse gamble than 23 year old 4th liner Krebs (add a 2nd/3rd), regarding a Scott Laughton trade. Or the next 1st rounder.

At least with a player like Poehling they bought low and gave up nothing on a former 1st round 4th liner. They didn't light value on fire.

This.
You don’t win Cups without high end talent. People will run and say what about St Louis, but the Blues had AP who was at that time, a franchise 1D, and Tarasenko was no slouch either. They also had a red hot goalie who played the best hockey of his career at the most important time.

But every other team in the last 15 years or so, besides being deep throughout tbe lineup, was loaded with top end talent:
Detroit: Lidstrom, Datsyuk
Pens: Sid, Geno, Fleury, Malkin
Hawks: Kane, Keith, Toews,
Kings: Quick, Doughty, Kopitar
Bruins: Chara, Bergeron, Thomas
Caps: Ovie & Backstrom
Tampa: Kucherov, Stamkos, Point, Vasi, Hedman
Avs: MacKinnon, Makar, Rantanen
Vegas: Pietrangelo, Stone, Karlsson

And I’m probably forgetting a few.
You need a 1C, you need top pair D. We have none of those. You might find a top pair D in the middle of round one as they are harder to identify, but you aren’t getting a 1C, let alone a franchise center, outside the top 10.

When’s the last time the Flyers heralded scouts found something exciting, a real star level guy outside of a gimme pick.

Claude Giroux? That’s 2006.

TK is a nice player but this is overrating their own bc it’s the best they have.

I’ll never be convinced this strategy will work. It’s the same old half ass retool nonsense, except they haven’t chased anyone in FA yet. Yet.

They are petrified of dealing anyone of real value, unless the player presents as a problem.
