Flyers were playing better before Risto came back, so really, it's net neutral at worst to trade him.
Like you can measure Ristolainen's contribution to the culture! Just like his universally accepted suitability for the playoffs despite never having played in the postseason, Ristolainen doesn't have to touch the ice to show his value.

If Danny really is getting interest in Walker/Risto and somehow parlays them into high draft capital then I'll be a happy camper. But it really is the next big step in his tenure. Does he make a good deal from a position of strength or does he fumble the bag and overplay it/buys at the deadline cause delusions. On the next episode of As The Flyers Turn: The Ballad of Briere arc.

Well, he already blew it with Laughton...we aren't getting the rumoured offer from the summer anymore

To me, Walker just seems ripe for the typical huge contract on the best season of his career, increase in minutes, then back down to earth. It wouldn't be the end of the world if Briere resigned him but it would be the exact situation that is ideal for a rebuilding team, and then a whiff after falling in love with the player playing over his head. Not to mention how ridiculous it would be to stonewall deals for either of the RHDs who would be best suited for second-pairing.

If they can move on from Risto, I would be happy.

Signing Walker to a mid-length deal isn't the worst idea. I agree, it would be on the best year of his career, and if they can't move Risto, then I'd move Walker in that scenario.

But my priority would be to move Risto. I like what Walker brings and the way he plays, and that can be a help in the development of how the team and other players play as well. Risto, to me, adds no value.

Friedman on 32 thoughts repeating the nonsense about not messing with the room we have heard from Charlie and others.

A rebuilding team doesn't change direction after 2 months. So dumb
They have been sticklers for ‘culture’ and whatnot, it’s easy to see how they don’t want to disrupt the chemistry of the room by sending people out when they’ve overachieved relative to expectations and striking a blow to morale. We hear it all over the league, nobody ever wants to trade a player off the roster if they’re playing for something unless there’s a roster or cap crunch.

They’re not rebuilding so it makes sense to not subtract from the roster.
