But Friedman didn't seem to be avoiding disputing DiMarco/TFP's reporting. Some of his sources even confirmed what DiMarco/TFP reported.

I think Charlie is just trying to sound smart by thinking he’s above "prematurely" getting into the fray.
Charlie's whole persona is gross, he always talks like he's better than everyone else and he knows hockey better than anyone, very condescending I stopped listening to BSH radio because no matter how hard I tried it wasn't good,

He combines that attitude with defending blatantly wrong decisions and valuations from the team.

I'm not trading Hart, or particularly TK, without getting back a 2023 1st rounder in the deal. That would be a red line for me.
I was basically putting Savoie as the 2023 first rounder. I'd much rather have him than the 13th pick in this draft. I suppose you could swap that out with Savoie but that seems like a downgrade IMO.

I wouldn't listen to BSH radio if you paid me, but Charlie seems fine to me on twitter. I can disagree with him and get a reasonable response.

Friedman also does not like to dispute others reporting, and to his credit, he ate it when JVR wasn’t traded. A few weeks ago, he mentioned one time last season that he felt really bad for doing it and the other reporter came at him privately. By the way, I think I know what that was, because it involved the Flyers.
Oh really. I was wondering which incident that was about.

i think you have to almost move TK for a haul this offseason...otherwise you risk him have a poor poor year or getting hurt
TK seems unlikely to have a poor year. He's in his prime, and he doesn't need a great center to do well, as we just saw this season.

If he got to play 60+ games with Couturier he could be an 80+ point guy.

TK would fit in nicely in boston.

I can't stomach that.

He combines that attitude with defending blatantly wrong decisions and valuations from the team.

It's even more egregious coming from him because he's demonstrated in the past that he understands the game and what makes players effective. He just lies to stay close to the organization. He finally started asking Fletcher tough questions but it wasn't until like 99% of the fanbase was already against him and the writing was on the wall regarding his future here.

From a sharks beat asking price for hart starts at 2 1st round picks

Makes sense to start out asking for the moon. When in doubt, moon it out. Then you come down during negotiations.

Wasn't there something about Sharks possibly wanting to try to re-toll rather than rebuild? If so:

7th, Hart, Hayes (50% retained) for 4th overall and 26th overall.

The praise Charlie got for his "tough" questions made me sick. They were the absolute bare minumum for someone in his position.

Forget trading up int the top 5, it's almost impossible.

2022: Chicago got the 7th and a 2nd and 3rd for DeBrincat
2017: NY got the 7th and TDA for Raanta and Stepan
2013: Vancouver got the 9th pick for Schneider

The traded picks in the top 5 have been unprotected picks from past trades, and teams now make top 10 protection routine in trades.

Totally agree. The smugness level in his writing, his tweets and BSH radio are off the charts. He acts like he's god's gift to the Flyers fandom because he's so level-headed and smart. His groupies are somehow even worse.

He's a reporter, his job isn't to play "gotcha" but try to gather information, and alienating the PTB isn't the most effective way to do so.
A lot of "reporters" are click bait artists, driven by the need to generate traffic to sell advertising, so they want to be controversial.
Charlie has to balance objectivity with access, antagonizing FO personnel for no reason other than to get his (or the fans') jollies would be counter-productive.

The Athletic is now owned by the NYT, so I'm sure they're fairly stringent about journalistic ethics.

I'm not even talking about antagonizing FO personnel or playing gotcha not sure where you got that from my post.

You know you can be objective with access and not come across like a know it all prick in your writing. Somehow Bo, Zach, Matt and the rest of the Philly beats on the Athletic manage to do that just fine.

I don't find Charlie to be insufferable, remember, he gets a lot of idiot comments from Flyer fans from both sides of the spectrum.
He understands analytics, he doesn't buy into the FO propaganda, but he's not knee jerk attack dog either.
And he and Appleyard collaborate on some pretty decent reviews of Flyer prospects.

Now his musical tastes, uh, he's stuck in some weird Emo time warp.

He trashed the Risto trade from day one.

You guys really need to step back from this fantasy where a writer from The Athletic needs to suck up to Flyers management to get access. That's not how it works.

Pretty sure that is how it works. Not just in sports but anything like this. If you're a guy that is constantly trashing the organization (or whatever the company is in a non-sports context), it is going to be a whole hell of a lot harder to get quotes or information on things down the road. They won't necessarily cut you off entirely but if you are friendly to them who do you think they are going to call when they have a story they want to get out? The guy that continually trashes them or the guy that doesn't?

If TK is on the move, maybe Buffalo might be a good trading partner? They were close to a PO spot last year and have a lot of young guys, adding a prime TK to their lineup may push them over the edge. Maybe a package with Hart for a mega-deal? No idea in terms of value but what if:

To BUF:
TK
Hart

To PHL
Savoie
PHL 2nd
2024 2nd
RFA Rights to Tyson Jost
Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen

Too much? Not enough?
I would do this but I know a lot of Sabres fans are a lot more stingy and think higher of Savoie than me.

It's been quite the case study the past little while here. People have a Eskin-like instinct to be naturally angry - the team giving them good reason to be - and even when they get the red meat they yearn for, they still shit all over it.
