Brendan Furry (25), C, 6'0 205, Minnesota State

3 years in the USHL, 3 years in college as an older (22-24) player. Captain his junior season.

"I think he's one of the best players we've played against all season," Powers said. "He's outstanding. I think his game translates to the highest level. He does everything right. He's got hard skill. Not a lot of people talk about him."

He’s a big and strong centre who plays a tough two-way game and has been a rock for Minnesota State in his time with the Mavericks. Furry has the work rate with the combination of skills to potentially be a bottom-six player in the NHL one day. It’s likely that Furry is already at a level where he would be an impact player in an AHL lineup.

I think it is unwise to ever underestimate the power of names in the NHL. Lots of kids get drafted where they shouldn't chiefly because of name value.

I don't know their process so I'm not gonna claim it's the only reason, but I bet it's a major one.
Yeah but lots of NHL kids also don't get drafted or get drafted late etc. If this was Daniel Alfredsson's kid or Jason Spezza's kid or someone with a big time NHL name, then sure. But a mediocre goalie from the 90s on the Flyers doesn't really make a ton of sense to have influence over the Sens. Cole Sillinger right after him and was a much higher ranked prospect and I'm pretty sure Mike Sillinger played for the Sens. From a logical standpoint it doesn't make sense that they would take Brian Boucher's son way higher than expected because of the fact he was Brian Boucher's son, when there was a clearly better prospect of a different NHLer that actually played for their organization.

Even that makes sense for the Blue Jackets to take him there and say well the Sillinger connection is a driving force, although he was I believe one of the top ten prospects in the draft at least from the NA side of things. But suggesting the Sense took a swing on a guy with a top ten pick because he was the son of a goalie from 20+ years ago on a different orgnization without more is just silly.

If you're lucky.
Though watching him, he isn't a total slug.
Could be a solid piece for LHV in their bottom six who might be able to fill in at 4C in a pinch.

Continues the trend of loading up LHV with mid-20s veterans rather than over 30 types collecting a last paycheck.

I didn't realize Joseph was suspended for violating team rules this season. Culture!

I still think he's better than a 4th liner specifically because he has some transition abilities. I just don't like the age/archetype chasing involved here.
I think for a 1st rounder its probably worth bringing in joseph as long as it doesnt speed up the timeline, part of this feels like theyre already over confident in what this team is going accomplish. I'd like to see Danny move a body out at the same time, even if its not going back to ottawa, but the idea of getting another 1st rounder without having to give anything up is a real sexy move

He's only 25, so lots of good development time ahead of him. Excellent, thank you.

I suspect Briere will have to settle for something on the order of 2nd rd value, it's getting harder to obtain 1st rd picks than a few years ago - though this may change as the cap rises the next couple years and teams don't need cheap players on their first contracts as much as today.

It's also why Joseph could be a useful asset, like Laughton, next summer with only 2 years left, the cap rising by $4M, both will be easier to deal (more teams that can afford them, and easier to take a one year bad contract in return).

Laughton is not being dealt

so then he messed up not taking that 1st and 2nd earlier. Also you flat out know he will not be traded. They are already ironing out the details of his ext in a few years.

No details have ever been released, my suspicion that 1st and 2nd included a major salary dump by St Louis, maybe Krug, maybe someone else.

if you watch the st louis blues draft video they put out theres a time where the blue GM is talking about making a trade to pick dvorsky and one of the conversations they blur his mouth but you can basically hear and make out enough of Scott Laughton to know who hes talking about. Danny only wanted the pick when he was thinking about moving up to get Michkov but he ended up not needing it and I think thats what seravalli was talking about

right in the first 20 seconds it shows it briefly but theres more context later

you can choose to believe what yo like and I will believe what I like. there was never ever any mention of a cap dump in any Laughton deal.
There was never a mention of ANY details. Just a vague reference to the draft picks, but nothing specific.

i dont think theyd do that without giving him some real games first, but if they can flip him for a defenseman of the same value/upside i wouldnt lose any sleep over it
I was joking lol that's why I put the sarcasm emoji, but idk I like foerster and think he will be pretty good, good all around player, but you're right, if there's a good rhd prospect I wouldn't be opposed to it depending on the player and or age

you ever seen a crackhead smoke nutmeg
Funny story, but I've seen a pot head smoke that and also tried smoking grass from his backyard lmao
