But they'd still have only $790K had they traded for Laughton, no #29, no extra 2nd rd pick in 2024, so they'd be squeezed to shed cap.

By getting Hayes, they can use those extra picks to shed cap, still have their (2) 2023 1sts and 2024 1st for a team that's getting top heavy with older, expensive veterans.

If I were Breire, I'd ask about Seeler for Scandella and their 2024 2nd rd picks.

790k is quite a bit better than 230k or whatever it is they're at now. I know I don't have to tell you how cap dollars accrue.

well a smart team that is in the position the flyers are in wouldn't be nowhere near the max and certainly would not want to dip into LTIR.

Imagine being capped out with this shit roster.
Briere has to work with what he was given.
Next year $21M, two years $53M.
Only major signings:
2024: Tippett, Hart both RFA
2025: TK (UFA), York, Foerster RFA

yep just like chuck had to work with what he was given. Next gm will be same thing.

Danny hasnt dont anything special in any way. He will blow any cap space on co-gm torts like players. No elite talent is coming to philly any time soon. I cant blame that at all.

they will overpay to keep all you mentioned to boot. I pray they keep TK on an 8 year deal. If any players g on waivers that have potential flyers cant even claim them without going over the cap. Sad.

also s chuck did a shit job is what your saying?

Briere doesn't have to do anything "special."
What he has to do is be patient, consistent and avoid abject stupidity.
Keep adding assets, use cap room to add more assets, invest in development, and patiently wait for the team to hit critical mass before declaring "mission accomplished."

yes he does as this team sucks. Being average or even good will not cut it. You covered all the generic bases though I must say.

What cap room has he added? He hasnt shed any of the problem contracts as he (i know be patient)? He Added a couple easy assets. He has done easy things so far. Though Hayes was a bad deal. He should have made it work for another year. He caved to the other co-gm/coach.

What you don't mention is surround himself with smart people who are more in tune with todays game and have a recent track record of some success.

Patient? After the team was tripping over itself to jettison both Hayes and TDA (cap space be damned) this summer because they ABSOLUTELY had to be off the roster that instant and not a second later?

Yes, tell me more about how patience is key for this team. Please, go on.

I think for a 1st rounder its probably worth bringing in joseph as long as it doesnt speed up the timeline, part of this feels like theyre already over confident in what this team is going accomplish. I'd like to see Danny move a body out at the same time, even if its not going back to ottawa, but the idea of getting another 1st rounder without having to give anything up is a real sexy move

They gained $6M this year in cap space by dumping TDA and Hayes. That was used to take on a salary dump in Peterson. Next year, they'll have about $15M after they sign their RFAs, even with the $5M in dead money. In two years, they'll have $40M or so in cap space after resigning their own players outside of TK, and they'd probably resign TK over adding a FA.

Hayes was an awful fit, they tried him at 3C last year. Do you really want him with Foerster? He's not a bad guy, just a bad fit in this scheme and not the kind of center that'll raise the play of young wings.
TDA was a disaster with any partner not named Seeler, do you want to pay him $5M on the third pair?

There was no market for these players (they did get a 5th and Rizzo for TDA, a 6th for Hayes) as can be seen by other deals around the league (Duchene was bought out b/c there was no market).

Addition by subtraction.

If there was no market, why couldn't they be patient and wait for there to be a market at the deadline? Especially since Hayes at 4 mill was a steal. In Hayes' case they could have waited another season or 2 to dump him, because patience is key to success.

Huh? What? Carry Hayes and TDA on the roster until the TDA, including the $7M in extra cap cost, and HOPE there's a market for Hayes with 3 years at $3.75M with half retained? Yeah, that's the ticket.

ASF:

-For who he has talked to multiple times, they don’t expect Hart to be the goalie here once the team is back in the playoffs. There were concrete offers made this summer, but pending investigation has any on hold.

-Zamula expected to be waived (I don’t get what they want from this kid to give him a proper shot)

- writing very much on the wall for Allison

Yeah, that's.....what it means to be patient. Don't get yourself twisted into a pretzel because you defined what qualities Briere needs to be successful and I pointed out an instance where he lacked one of those qualities.

Just answer these questions, and afterwards we can both let it go:

1) Did you say Briere needs to be patient?

2) Was he patient when he offloaded Hayes and TDA this offseason?

Boston definitely wouldn’t trade more than a 6th rounder right now for Kev. Yeah, that’s the ticket.

Why exactly am I supposed to be horrified at the thought of Foerster on Hayes' wing?

Deady, if they waive Zamula to roster Staal, don't even try to defend it. You know it's terrible process. You're an intelligent person.
Because Hayes certainly didn't help Allison last year.

If they waive Zamula to roster Staal, I won't defend it, but I seriously doubt that will happen.
Zamula would have to totally screw the pooch to get waived.
For one thing, unless Andrae makes a very quick turnaround, he doesn't look NHL ready right now.
And Ginning is LHV bound.
