If we're shit this year? I think that's a given, and I'm good with that. It's why, as much as I love him, I want to trade TK. You pick up some nice assets, and also increase your chances of a higher pick next year. It's not about tanking for a specific player. Just maximizing your chances to get top end talent (this includes picking up more firsts, not hoping for one miracle player)

Nobody is advocating for trading guys for shit returns either. If the offers aren't there so be it. But I don't want to hang on to valuable trade assets because the org thinks they'll have things turned around in 3 years. They've given me no reason to trust them to do that. Anybody who doesn't fit the Michkov timeline is expendable
im not against trading him if the offer is good, im just saying theres no rush. but realistically, we're gonna get less back for konecny than chicago got for debrincat which was a 1st a 2nd and a 3rd, he just came off a 40goal 80 point season. so its in our best interest to wait until the deadline when teams are more willing to overpay, and we can see how the standings look. All 1st round picks arent the same, if we end up with the 32nd overall and if it doesnt guarantee us a lottery win with our own pick, we have essentially traded away TK for a 2nd rounder and change, or a combination of bad picks and prospects.

It’s pretty simple that a prime age player with 2 years of cheap salary is more valuable than 1 year.

The Flyers don’t want to move Konecny because they believe a 29 year old Konecny fits their fantasy land internal timeline. They wouldn’t get more for him at the deadline or next summer than they would’ve gotten this summer. But timing peak value is not a Flyers speciality.

Luckily, there have been no reports to his cost that we can deny.

Yeah, all these 1 year cash-in-later contracts should be working to drive his value up. The NHL is largely a stupid place, though.

Hextall and Holmgren did not draft size for its own sake like Flahr does. There needed to be other traits.
Flahr has picked some smaller players too, in his defence. York, Brink, Tuomaala and Andrae pretty high, Barkey, Ciernik, Desnoyers too with value picks.

You still need a mix of skill, size, speed in your roster. When Matteo Mann hands the Cup to Adam Ginning….

No chance Mann picks up the Cup before Hunter McDonald.

ASF painted a picture on the latest STG that Laughton ultimately wasn’t traded because of “culture” reasons & not for lack of quality offers.

The fact that the team remains this predictable demonstrates nothing has changed.

He made it seem like Laughton future kind of hinges on the performance of the team as well. Like they may be more willing to move him at a later date if the timeline looks more like 5 years to 3 years.

But I pretty much know how that script goes following this team my whole life. They’ll finally being willing to move him when nobody is giving up anywhere close to the value they previously passed up.

He's under contract for multiple years. The difference between what hell get now vs as a rental needs to be judged against what he provides to a rebuilding team. I think it's less pressure to move Laughton than it is konecny even though tk is a much better player.

What he provides to a rebuilding team is the picks he brings in a trade

Elliotte Friedman wonders if the Flyers are looking at Shane Pinto. Ottawa has a roster crunch and needs to move bodies and may need to move Pinto himself. Pinto is currently an unsigned 10.2c, 20 goals last year.

Maybe the Flyers would send Laughton to Ottawa for Pinto. Getting bigger might be an acceptable tradeoff for "losing culture" to them and they've seemed to prefer roster players over picks in the past.

There's also the basic issue that they have to field a team, and aren't interested in throwing slop out there, probably not good for player development, I mean look at all the complaints about Frost's wingers last year. The same logic applies to other young players, you need to surround them with both decent linemates/defensive partners and some veterans who can hold their hand as they get acclimated to the NHL.

Right now LW is the biggest hole on the roster, Couts, Atkinson, are question marks, they don't know if Lycksell is ready, they don't know how fast Brink will be ready. Laughton is a quality veteran LW. Things could change in January once some of these questions are answered and some veterans coujld become expendable if kids step up.
