 lol, he's not better but you can believe that if it makes you feel better. Sanheim's contract is an albatross. I would love a 2nd rounder this year for him and that may get a deal done. Don't hold your breath though.

Lay off the drugs kid.

Hell
Here's an interesting situation.
Hanifan (LHD) has one year left in Calgary, they just signed Weegar long-term, they may not want to pay Hanifan big bucks.
So if they get a haul for Hanifan, they might want to turn around and trade for Sanheim, getting cost certainty.
Hanafin has said he wants out of Canada and back to the US. He's good as gone from Calgary

Sanheim has been statistically better than Provorov by every metric in every season since he's been in the league, including last season when clueless fans did nothing but shit on Sanheim and give the horrendous Provorov a free pass.

Provorov is better at being a selfish, egomaniacal, homophobic asshole..other than that he's not better at a damn thing.

This is exactly how i'm feeling today. Torts is running the show and wants this team as competitive as possible while only getting rid of players he hates.
They're definitely not going to be competitive by trading Provorov and Sanheim.

For sure. Torts still values getting rid of players he hates more than being competitive and proving doubters wrong. But it's close. And FWIW, I think trading Provorov was a non-negotiable for Briere that came from ownership. Torts probably wanted to keep him.

Torts and many of us have the same valuation of Hayes. Nothing wrong with that.

My problem is the organization not telling Torts, “i hear you, and he does have flaws, but cool it, keep giving him PP Time and keep him happy - I’ll get him moved in the summer, keep the value as high as possible”

Bad asset management

With Torts, there's two scenarios playing out right now:

- He's coaching as if he's trying to compete still, which isn't what we want.
- He's coaching as if he's trying to step into our management after this coaching gig is done

Both are awful and I'm discouraged. If he's going to be actively killing trades whether due to how he uses players, or if he's telling Briere that they can't be traded, I'm going to slide back into a pit.

I'm horrified at the thought that if someone like Benson is at 7, Briere will pass because a dope like Torts will say so. And forget about Michkov...Torts will fine Michkov the moment he steps foot on US soil.

Because his ego isn’t going to allow him to lose that much. He wants to trend as close to mediocre as possible so the media continues to kiss his ass.

Bottom line for me… This is not a real rebuild if Laughton is a Flyer tomorrow. Dumping the 3-4 guys torts hates is not rebuilding. Danny is a bottom, and Torts tells him who he’s ok moving. Torts has visions of sneaking into the playoffs with coots, Atkinson, TK, Laughton, etc. and being hailed a genius for taking a rebuild team to the playoffs.

Please prove me wrong today and I will happily eat crow
I’m trying to ignore the Torts effect because it’s nuts that a coach would get to decide who suits up. I’m not saying it isn’t happening, but it’s too nice a day to be cynical. Do I think Hayes was moved now to appease Torts? Maybe. But maybe it was just cleaner to move on now.

It wouldn’t be wrong to hold off trading most of these players if the offers for them aren’t sufficient. Laughton and TK aren’t going to lose value if they’re still on the team. They’ll still be valuable chips as the deadline gets closer. I agree that it won’t be a rebuild if they’re not moved before their deals expire, and a lot sooner. Laughton and TK are going to be past their primes when this alleged rebuild is done. (Hart is a different animal so for me he’s someone for whom I set a high price and I don’t budge. A 28- or 29-year-old goalie (age when they should be competitive) is not bad.

We'll see what happens tonight. Trades often don't go through until the pick is on the clock...but....this feels less like a rebuild and more like catering to the coach's "culture" demands. The names that are hot right now are the predictable ones (and one just went out the door for pennies). The ones that have the market value? Silence. If you're going to rebuild, you have to go all in.

What's worse is that having guys like Laughton, Sanheim, Hart, etc. around (along with Coots and Atkinson maybe coming back) is going to allow Torts to grit-grind the team back to another 7th overall pick. Chicago will very likely have better odds and Celebrini and Eiserman again next season.

Dreger already laying the groundwork for a Sanheim trade. It's going to be a pick swap.
A straight up swap would be ridiculous. But I wouldn't freak out if it was something like Sanheim and 22 for 18 and a 2nd provided no long term money was coming back. It's an underwhelming return but would open us up to sell that $6.25 million in cap space elsewhere. Of course, it would also require more long term thinking than this organization has shown in three decades.
