Not the worst deadline but not the best either.

Bass and Pop definitely fill a big need for the Jays as they are both quality arms (Bass is a very good arm)

White is actually not bad even though I had never heard of him prior. He's the Jays' #5 start now likely bumping out Kikuchi out of the rotation and in a playoff series, he's likely going to be a long man along with Strip.

Merrifield is okay, he was an all-star last year but he hasn't been great this year. He's basically Zimmer's replacement though so there's that
Pretty much my thoughts exactly. I am whelmed.

Hoglund was their most recent 1st round pick who hadn’t even had a chance to pitch a single inning for them.
Hoglund was definitely a give someone that hurts player.

Playoff teams we are competing with got a lot better, while we only got slightly better, which reduces our odds of winning the World Series.
We got better by firing Montoyo then added some pieces to help the pen.

People gotta realize that getting Soto wasn't a need but rather a luxury for the Jays. They would've had to give up all their top prospects and potentially one of Bo/Teo/Lourdes to Washington to get it done.
He'd absolutely be a luxury. A superstar outfield bat is about as far down the list of pipe dreams for this team as it gets.

On a positive note, if Othani is available in the off season, the Jays should be able to put together the best package considering they kept all of their top prospects

lmfao at the guys coming in like oh toronto sports fans are going to be toronto sports fans and why everyone is upset and if its for the "usual" reasons as if they're some mature, level-headed more knowledgeable fans. The white knighting is ridiculous.

People are allowed to be dissatisfied with the deadline. Like this isn't some home run TDL that we just witnessed from this FO. It was very questionable and we'll see if it pans out. But they didn't get an impact starter, or a bat and while they got bullpen help, they've had all year to address that and they just did with decent but nothing special arms. So ofc people are going to be underwhelmed. Tf?

Why are people upset. besides the usual things?
Probably because people wanted the bullpen strengthened, which it needs to be, for a deep post season run and Atkins didn’t. He basically got a guy to cover Springer if he’s ailing and nothing else.

We got one of the better relievers in baseball this year in Bass 1.41 ERA/2.06 FIP, 1.6 bWAR. Plus he has a cheap as chips option next season at 3 million.

I really don't get the Merrifield trade. Tapia is finally starting to look decent out there and they still have Lukes, not to mention the organization is filled with fringe outfielders who hit lightly and can run a bit. Heck, if they just wanted a glove and no bat, they could have called up Brown. In return, they give up roughly the same thing AND an interesting looking young pitcher that has so far looked pretty good in a relief role and was still young enough to improve as a starter to possibly serve as good depth, maybe grow into something better. Essentially exactly the sort of thing you need for a stretch run.

This feels like a total steal for KC.

At least everyone else makes sense. I'm guessing I was right about the Jays looking to spend prospects given they were willing to give up Groshans, but everyone was asking for Moreno and Tiedmann.

I understand people wanting more, but I think a lot of people are vastly understating how much better Bass and Pop make this team (and White, to a lesser extent).

Bass has been one of the best relievers in the league this year and Pop has been really good.

As epic as that would be, I wouldn't really hold my breath. Ohtani is the complete opposite of what this front office goes for. 1) Only a single year of control left 2) If he does sign, he'll get a gargantuan, extremely risky deal. 3) Will require a massive prospect haul, and this mgmt group doesn't give up massive prospect hauls.

Maybe we'll finish as the runner-up bidders though, we're quite good at that.

You didn't watch the Jays in the division series or league championship series in 2015 and 2016?
One year I watched a few innings and the other they were on some obscure channel which I didn’t have.

Oh I don't disagree with your statement at all. In fact you/morgs/et all have probably the best takes.

This was much more so in response to guys who are just shitting on people feeling "whelmed" lol. Like the white knighting is kinda whack.

All i'm saying is, this wasn't the perfect deadline, and I think you'd agree to say this was an average to above average ish TDL - which does leave room for criticism for a team that has world series aspirations imo.

yooo PM me your roster lol. I'm addicted to it.

There was a quote posted earlier that teams don't like Toronto's pitching prospects after Tiedemann and Manoah.

It's great that Toronto has a good system but other teams ONLY like the top couple of guys of it. The rest is meh.

To be fair, Atkins told us the price for the big starters was "too high". Given what we've seen, all of the trades involved #1 to #5 picks, multiples at that, we can safely assume that any trade Toronto was in on saw the likes of Moreno, Martinez, and Tiedman's names bandied about, likely two of the three. I can live without Martinez, but Moreno alone is worth a couple years from a starter, and Tiedman is exactly what we need. And when you have marquee prospects like that kicking around, nobody wants to talk about your #5 or higher guys.
