As long as they’re in the afternoon…i can’t remember the last WS or even division championship game I’ve watched. ‘93 for sure, but after that? Oddly enough I’ve watch over 100 live spring training games.
You didn't watch the Jays in the division series or league championship series in 2015 and 2016?

Horrendous is an exaggeration. It was mediocre. They got 2 pen arms, which we all wanted, a starter, which we all wanted, and a utility type, which they got. Or were you expecting them to empty the farm? Because that wasn't going to happen.

I would definitely say horrendous.

The problem i have with Mitch White "has been better" is Mitch White started 14 games in career total. That's not even a full season as a starting pitcher. He might be a good addition for the future we will see but for now i'm not sure. If i was the coach it would not feel right to sit vets like Kikuchi and Stripling this season for a guy with next to no experience. My bet is he'll be used as a relief pitcher. He'll be an upgrade over the likes of Thornton (who is not?) but that's about it for this season imho. If the coach has the guts to start him and he tears it up i'll retract what i just said.

Merrifield is just having bad luck this season. If regresses to the norm, he could be really good.

2016-2021;
Marcus Semien; 19.6 fWAR in 3417 games
Whit Merrifield: 17.0 fWAR in 3389 games

One got $175M and the other has another year as low as $2.75M or as high as $4M.

Mitch White looks like the current version of Syndergaard + more control. If it wasn't for the fact that Syndergaard has a connection the Jays I doubt there would be as much of a demand for him among Jays fans.
I think most are upset because Atkins didn't get any flashy names. If the production is there, who gives a shit if the guys named Syndergaard or White. They have similar numbers but one guy is a rental and the other is younger and is team controlled for 5+ years.

Just a reminder to fans who think that Frasso is going to be the next Manoah. Here's 3 names from the past that were supposed to be the Jays future HOF starting staff: Justin Nicolino, Noah Syndergard, and Aaron Sanchez. Only one of the "Lansing 3" is still a major leaguer, and we just passed on getting him back because he wasn't worth giving up the future for anymore. If Nick Frasso becomes a star in 2 or 3 years, then so be it. But if we win a WS in the meantime with the guy we traded him for as part of the team, I'll take that any day.

How is saying he's had good numbers for the last 3 months overanalyzing?
Looking for a reason why they specifically traded for him is over analyzing it. Sometimes a trade is just made to satisfy basic needs.

The team that makes the sexiest moves are not the ones that win sometimes. Our team in 2015, looked great up until the ALCS where they flamed out in 6 to the eventual champion. IF the players are disappointed, that's fine, but that's not an excuse to play like shit the rest of the way. Play like you're supposed and this is still a great team.

I think they needed another good starter and a decent bat.

I would’ve been OK with giving up Orelvis, Biggio, Pearson and more.

for the right pitcher and bat sure. but i would argue the prices and those players weren't available or got returns that exceeded most peoples expectations

Not the worst deadline but not the best either.

Bass and Pop definitely fill a big need for the Jays as they are both quality arms (Bass is a very good arm)

White is actually not bad even though I had never heard of him prior. He's the Jays' #5 start now likely bumping out Kikuchi out of the rotation and in a playoff series, he's likely going to be a long man along with Strip.

Merrifield is okay, he was an all-star last year but he hasn't been great this year. He's basically Zimmer's replacement though so there's that

I expect the Jays will give Kikuchi another shot after his last start was solid.

Bass likely slots in as 8th inning shutdown guy.

Pop is likely above Mayza but might have some untapped potential that could turn him into another late inning guy.

White gives us length taking the Stripling role.

Merrifield kicks one of Zimmer or Collins off the team as a guy who can actually play CF when Springer DHs.

Iglesias and Robertson were both good options, but neither is having a great year (there was speculation that Anaheim wasn't even going to sign Iglesias last offseason).

At some point during this window they’ll need to give up a piece or two that hurts. Not just pieces that they’re internally “OK” with giving up because they have inside info on those prospects’ weaknesses.

The one thing I'm very curious about is what do the jays do with the catcher position in the winter.
