Didnt like this initially. Now I see Bass has a club option next year and Pop is better than I thought.

Pretty good deal

If they're done externally upgrading the bullpen, I'd love to see what Zulu could do the rest of the year in the pen. He's 24 so not too young for it.

I agree but a lot of casuals won’t go that far. They will just know the name
Most will at least look at his basic stats. It’s not like you have to delve into his advanced numbers to see that he hasn’t been great lately.

It's sort of similar to Austin Martin last season.
When he got traded many lost their minds but if you'd been following his development, there was serious concerns about his lack of power and what position he would play.

Fast forward this season and Martin is heading towards bust territory. He still has time left to figure it out but its starting to look like management dealt him at the perfect time.

Groshans was hitting over .400 at the start of the year for what felt like a few weeks, he's been awful since then though. Seems like a good return for him at this point. He's also been pretty injury prone in his career too,

Obviously have different pitches but profile wise Pop kind of reminds me of Adam Cimber, low K’s, low walks, high GB%, solid at avoiding barrels. Both also came to Toronto from Miami.

Martin was different because his superficial stats still looked pretty decent. Groshans has just fallen off the map entirely.

The only saving grace for Groshans is he does not have the throwing/arm strength issues of Martin. He doesn't have the range for SS long term, but I think he sticks at 3B all day defensively.

However, the bat is the major issue with no power. Yet.

they don’t really need another bat. They could get one to push Collins out but outside of Happ whoever they get won’t see much playing time

This depends on the status of Springer, and whether they think he might need some time on the DL. Of course, you can play Zimmer, but man, that's a dead bat.

So here's the Blue Jays current pitching roster:

SP:
Berrios
Gausman
Kikuchi
Manoah
Stripling

RP:
Cimber
Garcia
Mayza
Phelps
Romano
Banda
Richards
Thornton

The bolded are the ones most likely to lose their spots to Bass and Pop. The Jays have room to either get a starting pitcher and move Kikuchi into the pen, move that pitcher to the pen, or try a piggyback strategy with the two. Or they could just acquire a new reliever.

Ptbnl in the trade I’m assuming is someone from this years draft or one of a few prospects they want to have an extended look at in their system

Other than the 98 MPH sinker :)

I think there is real K potential in there to go with his bowling ball.

Can’t be from this years draft, they changed that loophole.

In a wildcard scenario, you can probably cut that down to 10 pitchers. Can you not? Kikuchi probably doesn't make the playoff roster for the wildcard round.
Berrios
Gaus
Manoah

Strip
Romano
Bass
Cimber
Garcia
Mayza
Phelps/Pop
