What I love about that trade is, it pushes everyone but Romano down a spot and adds another Cimber/Garcia/Phelps quality arm to the next tier with Pop.So here's the Blue Jays current pitching roster:
SP:
Berrios
Gausman
Kikuchi
Manoah
Stripling
RP:
Cimber
Garcia
Mayza
Phelps
Romano
Banda
Richards
Thornton
The bolded are the ones most likely to lose their spots to Bass and Pop. The Jays have room to either get a starting pitcher and move Kikuchi into the pen, move that pitcher to the pen, or try a piggyback strategy with the two. Or they could just acquire a new reliever.
I guess Richards might be the odd one out given how terrible he's been this year.Just an FYI, but we aren't allowed to have 9 in the pen. League rules state that 13 is the max for pitchers.
Tapia's been awesome for like 2.5 months now. Obviously an upgrade is an upgrade, but I wouldn't exactly be in a hurry to dump him when there are actual scraps on the 40-man.
That depends on Springer's health, doesn't it?My thinking is that if you get Happ, Tapia becomes your #5 outfielder, inheriting Zimmer's role of substitute defender and pinch runner...and he's inferior to Zimmer in both of these, and is much more expensive to boot.
Oh yeah, I absolutely agree. Zimmer would make more sense on the roster in that case. I guess I just read the "drive him to the airport" part as if he's useless and you can't wait to get rid of him. I like the trade. Pop is still relatively young and it looks like he has the tools to be better than he has been so far in his career. Not sure about Bass though. He has a terrific season but i was not a fan of him 2 years ago ... still Groshans was overrated imo. Still need a starter imo. I would not say no to a guy like Happ either.
That opt-out for next year is a tough one. Either you're overpaying for 2 months this year, or paying $22 million next year for an injured player. And he has a long history of injuries.I would like Rodon please and thank you.
Maybe i don't know since i don't watch the Marlins lol XDI think I read something here that Bass figured something out with his slider which allowed him to be more effective.

I have to assume its nothing since Pop and Bass is more then enough for GroshansWonder who the PTBNL will be. Could be nothing but the fact that it’s not a PTBNL or cash considerations suggests it’s might be something interesting. Plus the Jays have a knack for getting teams to throw in decent prospects in these trades for whatever reason.
