So unfortunately that potential hurricane I mentioned a bit over a week ago did in fact develop and now looks to take a more ne track. Not particularly strong for us, but looks like it could stall out and lead to really prolonged rain = yuck.

How long will that last? Im about 15 minutes from the shore, Central Jersey.

I'm still getting all kinds of thunder and rain.

And the storm made landfall over 200 miles from me. I think I saw on the news that I got like 13 or 14 inches of rain in the last few days and that was even before another I don't know how many inches this morning and afternoon.

It could actually strengthen into a hurricane by the time it reaches Jersey.
Worst case scenario is a Jersey Shore landfall and the severe destruction that goes with it.

Or, it could completely miss NJ and go out to sea.

Hopefully it goes out to sea. Jersey Shore has been hard hit by hurricanes too much in recent years:(

Ugh this freaking storm, serious potential here on LBI for severe flooding, pretty much everyone I've talked to is totally clueless. This thing is going to reform right off the coast and linger for a while, 40+ sustained NE winds pumping in a lot of water over days. Could be pretty bad on the bayside, pulling the boat tomorrow.

The weird thing is both the American (GFS) and Canadian models have the thing stalling off the Jersey coast for a few days. That's very strange. It takes a normal ne path from the Florida panhandle up I-95'ish or so, but when it gets off the Jersey coast instead of continuing that ne path or at least moving more OTS, it starts spinning like a top in place for a while.

On the GFS it gets to south Jersey tomorrow night around 9pm'ish, but when it finally gets a good 150 miles off the south Jersey shore it's Thursday night/Friday morning!

On the Canuck it button-hooks into Jersey Sunday night, then when it's say 150 miles off coast it's Thursday mid-day.

Net/net, the farther from the shore you are the better in terms of weather. I think storm surge could be worse than people are currently thinking just from looking at verbatim computer modeling depiction. Doesnt seem like most people up here think this will be a big deal is my perception? It might not be (hopefully), I'm just saying the potential for flooding in beach towns look pretty high to me IMHO.

Yes I agree, the surge is going to be a big problem, I expect volunteer evacuations to be put up tomorrow. Like I said no one seems to care, they're too busy partying on the holiday weekend. I expect he boulevard here will be impassable sunday into monday with the two high tides with potential for a lot worse.

Absolutely disgusted by the lack of response, preparations and evacuation plans by NJ officials. I have been following this storm for days and since noon we are talking about a massive shift in the storms trajectory. The EURO and NAM models agree, A massive 75-80 mph hybrid storm will be sitting off our coast for over two days. We will be experiencing major flooding at the coast.

And yet absolutely nothing by our officials. Dumbass Atlantic City mayor actually said to ride out the storm in the casinos which will remain open. NWS Mount Holly just predicted 20-25 ft waves and 4-6 ft surge in AC, record flooding potential for AC. Where the hell is Christie...oh right nvm. His ass better be in NJ tomorrow and preparing the state for the storm if this forecast sticks.

The beach concerts in AC tomorrow were postponed.

Yeah? And in that same press release he encouraged for the people to stay at the resorts. AC is so damn prone to surge, absolutely ridiculous to go there this weekend if this forecast holds.

How many more years do you give it until AC is like completely gone?

And by completely gone, I mean all the casinos are closed down? If my count is right, there's only about 4 casino's left on the boardwalk, then they still got the 3 over at the marina. The Borgata seems to be doing just fine, but the one's on the boardwalk have been closing one by one the last 2 years.

Well it will be only 4 on the boardwalk left, after the Taj Mahal closes this weekend. I was there just 3 weeks ago and it was more dead than I had remembered in past years.

When I was a little kid, I told everyone I knew that I wanted to live in Atlantic City. I told everyone in my Kindergarten and First grade class that I wanted to live there. I remember riding onto the expressway at night when I was a little kid, and the lights and everything looked so pretty to me. It looked like a beautiful place from the highway. And it was on the beach, which was a HUGE plus.

In my adult life, it became just a place to go to occasionally. With no more ambitions of ever wanting to live there.

Borgata is killing it.

The Trop and Harrahs do very well too.

Due to time constraints and it already being damn near sunrise when I was in AC, I was unable to make it to the marina area casino's on my most recent trip. I was pretty much out all night with friends, just walking the boardwalk and pretty much at least walked into every one of the boardwalk casino's.

Put a horizontal line through New Jersey about 40%'ish from the bottom, and it looks like shore towns below that line are gonna' get freaking pounded with heavy rain and flooding. If you own a boat down there (or really anywhere on the Jersey shore because computer models can often be off by X miles), hopefully you're going to move it. As I said last night, I think this is going to surprise a lot of folks with how bad the flooding on the shore will be given how long duration this event is going to be as it's going to cover several high tide cycles.

The modeled blocking in place is incredibly strong, which is what "holds" the Hurricane like a crossing guard. Ever take a quarter and spin it on a table? How it spins in place and then with a little bit of movement in a few directions? That's how it looks in various degrees on the GFS, Canuck, and Euro, and the fact they all agree is not a good thing. Hopefully the blocking the computers are forecasting is not as strong, bc that's what holds the storm in place. Weaker blocking = the storm would be allowed to move away from Jersey, but that's not what the models are thinking.

South Jersey and the Shore may get 10+"of rain with most of North Jersey not even getting a drop?

I think he just means the shore and Barrier Islands are incredibly prone to flood damage more than anything. A prolonged storm that will hit at high tides (and potentially multiple ones as well) will only further escalate that damage.

I moved back to New Jersey five years ago (a week before Irene), and this is the third hurricane now. Sheesh.

Down in Bay Head until Monday, then back to Jersey City. Should be interesting to see the difference between the two, storm-wise.

3-5 foot surge for coast which will last through 8 high tide cycles. Not good.

I'm going to Ocean City in 2 weeks. Is that going to probably get nailed bad by this (ie: widespread damage)? Really hope they are OK because going there is a highlight of my year and I love that place.

I moved out of Jersey a couple weeks after Irene.

There's officially been more hurricanes (including Irene) to hit New Jersey than Florida since then. First hit in Florida since I've been here was Hermine yesterday morning. It doesn't look like Hermine will make an actual New Jersey landfall though. It hit 200 miles from me, but it must have seriously rained a foot and a half here.

Well, while everyone was gearing up for a tropical storm, I was at Lake Champlain doing some much needed fishing. I'm not one for pictures, but this fish was particularly interesting. It's a hybrid between a northern pike and a chain pickerel. Pretty neat fish:

Nope. I very rarely keep anything I catch, and what I do keep is by request from someone else. Even then, it's only if I feel I owe it to them. If left to my own devices I will release everything every single time. It's the most satisfying part of the experience. I rarely take pictures of anything I catch either. This picture was a request as well. While these fish aren't super rare, you don't see them as often as a northern or chain pickerel, so it's nice to have a picture to refer to.
