I imagine that they didn't want the "Mario voice" because it's stereotypically Italian. Mario isn't exactly PC, and not just because he's on consoles. The Bowser stuff was great, Jack Black nailed that. Chris Pratt doesn't sound at all like Mario in that though, don't know why they just couldn't cast someone who can do the Mario voice, it's not like this movie needs big names to be a success.

I wish they would have let Charles Martinet try to find a toned-down Mario voice for conversational speak with Mario. Other language dubs are using their original/current Mario voice actors, I think the USA chose Pratt for his name recognition. and his work in the Lego movies. And that's the wrong move.I imagine that they didn't want the "Mario voice" because it's stereotypically Italian. Mario isn't exactly PC, and not just because he's on consoles.
Really wouldn't be hard to do multiple Mario movies at least storywise.I'll withhold judgement on Pratt but even what they showed of his work actually looks alright.
Outside of that, it looks fantastic. Colorful and vibrant like the world/series its based off, tons of references to other Mario related stuff (Mario Kart, Smash, Luigi's Mansion, and then Mario Galaxy) and with plenty of personality.
This movie is going to easily break a billion dollars at the box office and i can't help but wonder if its potential success leads to the creation of another cinematic universe. Nintendo is sitting on almost 40 years worth of material, most of which is pretty easily converted to film at least in concept. Already wondering if the seeds have already been laid given that "there's so many universes/galaxies out there and they all need our help" line.
