Va falloir que tu me traduises ça en français car je suis pas certain de bien comprendre, Tabarouette!

Us being both insane is absolutely accurate. The most accurate things in this thread actually.

But Slaf is not on a hot streak. I mean, i am not sure he exactly goes 22 points in 24 games but he feels more like a 1st overall pick growing than an out-of-nowhere 26 years old having a hot streak.

We may as well be talking about Jeremy Lin and preaching caution about Slafsanity for all the relevance Galchenyuk's development 3 coaches and 10+ years ago has to Slafkovsky.

False.

Galchenyuk scored 30 in his D+4, on his bridge contract after his ELC.

In his D+2, he had 31 points. Slaf is at 30 and there is 27 games remaining.

Galchenyuk never displayed the level of skills, athleticism, two-way acuity and overall impact on the game we are seeing right now with Slaf. Not even close. They dont even belong in the same conversation.
Lol, how quickly people forget.

People were losing their minds over Galchenyuk during his early years.

if the forum would let me do it, and if I didn't have a job, i'd go back and show you how insane the hype was about having finally found our #1 center
Enjoy 😉

I like that one:

I really like Tyler Seguin, but yes I agree. Galchenyuk has virtually unlimited upside. Best forward prospect for Montreal since 1971

And for good reason.

But Slaf might be the best forward prospect we’ve had since Richer. The only other player who could give him a run for his money is Caufield who scored 48 in 82 straight out of the gate with MSL.

I said the galchenyuk 30 goals were stupid back then, he scored 8 in the last couple of games of the season against ECHL teams

I was called a fool back then too, a debbie downer, an insane person 😔
It was that Fall after his 30G season that he he was left off the NA 23 and under team and Hab fans blamed Therrien.

And for good reason.

Caufield was weak defensively before this season. Much better effort from Cole now, but Slaf has been responsible all along.

what about Slafkovsky's game do you think is not sustainable? what bad habits are you picking up on? what skills of his are being overvalued?
Right now? he's playing good, I still think his decision making is slow, his shot is extremely overrated, I keep reading about how his goals are legit but *multiple* of them were very much lucky bounces (especially at the beginning of that hot streak) i'm sorry. He's still losing battles he shouldn't lose considering his size but a lot less than he did before, so that's a positive

And also the truth nobody wants to hear is that a lot of his mistakes or downsides are getting covered by the fact that he's also getting hard carried by Suzuki who's going completely ham and could probably make Travis Moen look like a competent player too the way he's playing right now. The shooting percentage is unsustainable, it just is what it is so we'll see how things go when it calms down

48 in 82. That’s insane for a guy just starting his career.

By all means take Slaf. His ceiling is huge and is a completely different player. But CC’s upside is fantastic as well.

Slafsanity is an apt description. Playing very well now doesn’t mean he’ll reach his upside on the moon. Not taking anything away from him. We need more data and we can’t know based only on the past few games.

What's more likely, to you

That his first steps in the NHL were rough, as is for 98% of all NHL players, and that his overall game in the future will be more like when he was taking those first rough steps? Aka "busting"?

Or, OR

He will look more like the player that's 'on a hot streak' who is getting more and more comfortable in the NHL which happens to most NHLers who stick and become productive players?

What do you think is happening exactly..?

OR, maybe a player that will fall in-between those 2 extremes? Why is this streak with demonstrably unsustainable numbers suddenly the "real" him while the dogshit times weren't?

if he stabilizes in-between those then that's a 40-50 point guy so cool if that's what you want, that's not very exciting to me, that's a 1st OA bust

hopefully he does better than that, i'm just not ready to go f***ing insane like the last 4 pages and give him 8*8M over this streak no

What part of 'first steps in the NHL at age 18' do you not understand exactly..?
First steps?
NHL?
18?

You think every single subsequent season of his we have to start all over every time..?

He was horrible this year, not just last year. He turned around on a dime, idk how you think progression works but usually it's not getting 300% better overnight

Brett didn't screw Brett.. Vince screwed him.

Therrien and Bergevin also screwed Galchenyuk.

Neither of those are really debatable.. We have recorded 24CH footage of how abusive Therrien was to players, particularly Subban, to know what it would have been like to deal with him as a teenager.

Bergevin didn't insulate anyone at that time and if you start f***ing a kid up, give him no support structure, and leave him to the Montreal night life scene.. that is what you're going to get.

They failed Galchenyuk and I'm not absolving Galchenyuk of his part to play, but it's pretty clear with what Hughes and Gorton has installed since they've been here that the Bergevin regime was abhorrently bare in resources and structure needed to support young athletes to not only survive in this market, but thrive in it.
LOL oh I did NOT want to make it look like i sided with Vince on that, it was TOTALLY his fault, I was more just focusing on the actual line itself lmao I didn't even realize

Like I said, bergevin and therrien had a huge hand in messing it up
But at the CORE deep down and especially seeing the actual human being he ended up turning out to be
A LOT of it is on Galchenyuk himself

Is what I was trying to say lmao

He didn't turn on a dime at all.. he started playing better and not getting points; then the usual suspects were not believing he was progressing because he didn't have the points to show for it.

Now his improved play has improved more and he is getting production out of that improved play.

I agree that there's no reason to rush into a long term extension here.. I'd rather pay for certainty than get burned trying to get cute. But there's also no reason to think that the 1st overall at 19 years old getting production from improving his play all over the ice, is just a hot streak.

Yes, Galchenyuk made choices and obviously the off-ice stuff impacted him.

I do think that if he got transported to this regime and development group, things happen differently for him.

He likely doesn't become the 1C that we wanted him to be.. but he was a legitimate scorer even with Therrien as his coach before it all unraveled.

Even for HFBoards, this is strange take. Its not just the stats that have been improving over this run, his impacts have improved too. Players also don't finish developing at 19. If they did then Suzuki and Caufield would only be AHL caliber players.

He's done nothing to warrant a massive contract in salary and term one year before his ELC even expires. Call out the crazy contract overreactions for sure, but this is an over-correction in the extreme.
