Sucks that we seem to have played ourselves out of contention, but we should also be careful of moving the goalposts too much. The general consensus was that we wanted to be playing meaningful games down the stretch this year, and for a while that was very much in doubt until they turned it around.
This and it wasnt even a sens fan that started the thread.

I mean, we talking current day roster? I have no problem admitting that today's Sens roster is better (although the Standings suggest it's extremely close). Your forwards are deep, I'll give you that. Stutzle is an absolute game-breaking stud (just dives a bit too much). Tkachuk is a dominant power forward (who needs to learn to win with class.) Kinda ironic with all the show-boating that he does considering he's never won anything. Giroux has played like a monster this year. The Norris injury was unfortunate too, he's a nice player. Then you have Mr. Team Canada World Juniors legend Drake Batherson as well, but his +/- would make most PGA golfers enviable, and well his *alleged* off ice issues are pretty disgusting.

Your prospect cupboard is empty though. We have tons of studs coming, and 6 picks this year before you even make 1 in the 4th round. You didn't have a first rounder last year, don't have one again this year, and you wasted your 10th overall pick in 2021 on a scrub. I have no doubt in my mind we will reach where we want to reach before you do. Pierre is building to squeak into the playoffs, Yzerman doesn't give a shit about squeaking in, he's building for a Cup.

I will enjoy watching our 2 teams go head to head in the coming years, and I have no doubt in my mind Detroit is a contender before Ottawa.

You too! Enjoy missing the playoffs yet again, and looking forward to your 4th round pick.
Id take the sens roster moving forward too.

Norris had 35 goals in 66 games last year playing first line center taking all the hard matchups, little better than a nice player. However his injury issues are a concern. Pinto is second in rookie goals right now and 52% in the dot. He is shaping up to be a 2/3 center he is also strong defensively. Greig is going to be a very good player in this league. You win with stars and the sens have several. Detroit will have a deeper prospect pool but when Ottawa already has its core in place there is only so many spots. They do have some good prospects to fill out the bottom of the roster which Ostapchuk, Sokolov, Jarventie, Boucher, Crookshank. Kleven, Bernard-Docker, Thomson can fill out the depth on D. Really they are just missing a number 1 goalie moving forward.

The Formenton situation is something to follow too he is another very good young player.

Debrincat, who knows I think they should trade him but he is only 25

This is the core only Giroux is on the downside of his career.

Tkachuk 23 Norris 23 Batherson 24
Debrincat 25 Stuzle 21 Giroux 35
Grieg 20 Pinto 22 Joseph 26
Kastelic 23

Chabot 26 Chychrun 24
Sanderson 20 Zub 27
Brannstrom 23

Yes only the Senators can get better, not the Panthers. Thanks Tips
When the entire team is under 25 for the most part it usually means there is more room for improvement. If they are older than 25 there is less development. Its not isolated to the sens. Detroit and Buffalo for example will both continue to improve too.

What happens when the Panthers shooting regresses back the the mean?

What happens when the sens shooting percentage improves to the mean.

No 17 in stripes did.
You tell me

I thought the Sens would fall short due to the brutal schedule. But their main problem now is 2 rookie goalies that should be in the AHL that are getting lit up. The team isn't good defensively either. If it was Forsberg - Talbot, they'd be a lot closer, but would still probably fall short of the playoffs.

crazy thing is, they still have a good shot making it
I mean you are you, but please. According to calculations, they have 1,1% chance to make it. That's a "good shot"? Lmao

Sens need at least 22 points in the remaining 14 games while Isles and Panthers both need to perform no better than average. Not to mention there are still Washington and Sabres who also have a better chance. Sens have the slimmest of theoretical possibilities, basically, they can't afford to lose a single game in regulation from this point on.

Never said trouble just pointed out this is as good as that team is gonna get.

Do you think as a team they're going to get better? Their entire team are in their primes. Simple concept not so simple for simple people I guess.

Again, what on earth are you talking about?

They have a depth issue, not high end talent issue.
You are telling me they can’t rebuild their depth?

Changing Staal& Gudas into actual usefull players won’t make a difference?
Lundell developing more won’t make a difference?

You must have thought Boston was done for good when they had to retool and Bergeron/Krejci were around 30

If the Sens had Gustavsson over Talbot, they probably make the playoffs.

I'm inclined to agree with this. Soogard isn't ready. He hasn't been atrocious, but he's not at the stage where he can routinely make the saves he shouldn't make. And every team needs that to be successful.

The sens are still young and incredibly streaky. When they're on they're amazing, but when they're off they're brutal... these games are amazing experience for them even if they're getting smacked around.

Add a new coach in the off-season who can institute a strong defensive system, the thing that DJ has totally failed to do, and they should be more consistent next season.
