The reason there isn't a thread with Montreal and playoffs in the title is because it's so beyond the realm of the possible that no one even bothered to try.

So yes, there's a giant gap there.

What's that got to do with you having failed with your dumbass gotcha attempt? Again, no one brought up Montreal but you. I never pretended that we're good or even better than the Senators. You're like the clerk at a dead-end job trying to make himself feel better by making fun of the janitor or something. The only who comes off as insecure and deranged is the clerk.

I'm thinking your posts in this thread are pretty much the same thing.

It's not surprising that you can't see it.

Haven't brought up Montreal once. I know we suck. Senators fans have been clinging unto 'we made a late-season run!' for three years now. I remember hearing the same cope the year of the Canadian division.

Fine, here you go.

You think Senators fans have all collectively decided to randomly invent this concept of "meaningful games"?

By the way, how many meaningful games have the Senators actually played? They were at the bottom all year and went on a bit of a streak recently. And now they're back to 12th with 15 games still left to play. Even to pretend they were in the race all year is farcical.

Nice attempt at a pivot and re-direction.

I accept your apology for being wrong about expectations for this season.

Did you see the link I shared?

So, even assuming you were right with that nebulous 'meaningful games' shtick (a goal that wasn't even achieved considering the Sens are already done and have been done for a while), what does that say about the state of your franchise that your general manager had to temper expectations after declaring the rebuild over a year prior? Mmmm...

What, "start to win hockey games"?

What does that mean exactly to you?

How convenient to ignore 'The rebuild is over.'

Listen man, unlike you, I don't have qualms about speaking in direct terms. When a general manager says that the rebuild is over, I'm expecting his team to make the playoffs. Period. Anything else is a colossal failure. Let alone downplaying expectations the year after saying that.

So, let's see, what we have thus far is:

'The rebuild is over.' - Proceeds to miss the playoffs for the next two years.
'Play in meaningful games' before the beginning of this year. Proceeds to be, for all intents and purposes, out of the playoff race in November.

At least I don't defend my trash. Not sure why you're so hellbent on defending yours but it is entertaining on a slow Thursday afternoon.

I'm on the fence about the Sens making the playoffs. They could, they just have to play better, consistent hockey. I'd like to see them make it just because it would set everyone off lol. And the fans really deserve it.

There is no playoff race in November.

What a bizarre contention.

How were they out of the playoff race in November when they were back in the race in March?

They bottomed out early and if three losses put you out of the race (which they are at 12th in the conference and 8 points out), you were never really in it. What was their highest probability percentage even during their streak? Under 10%, yeah?

They weren't in it. They've been out since November. But glad to see you have nothing else besides another gotcha that didn't work out.

Nice fanbase in Ottawa if you're management, though. You get to backtrack after setting expectations and your mark fanbase gobbles it up.

I have to hand it to you, this is the nicest and in-depth reverse jinx post I've read in awhile.

I don’t know how I feel about this.

I mean what you’re saying makes sense, but does that mean we’re still rebuilding at this point in time?

I think we’re done rebuilding in the sense that we aren’t moving out assets for futures. I think we’re done with our rebuild phase but just not good enough to make the playoffs yet.

What are you talking about?

MoneyPuck had them at 22% in early January.

Here it talks about them dropping to 19.6% after losing to Chicago, "the lowest since March 2nd".

I stand corrected then. 1/5 is still really weak, though. How did that rate with the rest of the field (So let's say, every team that's not Philadelphia, Montreal and Columbus).

I think the Senators are done rebuilding, IMO. I think that if things go relatively well, they'll be in the playoffs next year. But to say that things have been according to plan in the past couple of years is a joke. You don't make the moves they did just to hopefully be in the race for 9th. You do it because you expect to make the playoffs and to be a threat. They haven't been.

I'm not going to look it up. Feel free to do so.

Ultimately it doesn't matter because they blew the road trip and their playoff run is effectively over.

To state that they were never in the playoff race is a falsehood, however.

Their star just turned 21. Most of their core players are shy of 25.

I was hoping that they would make those moves to be in the playoff race this year and be in a playoff spot next year.

Very few teams go from "lottery team" to "Stanley Cup contender" in a single bound.

Did they linger at the bottom for awhile? Absolutely. The team was essentially gutted of talent.

I mean, we were the worst team in the league in December and won the Cup that same year. Anything is possible. The Sens just need to want it bad enough. Not some of them, all of them. They need their own Gloria.

Great, they were for a minute, at a 1/5 chance after being at the bottom and with a similar record to Montreal for half the year. What a success.

A lot of the moves we made to be fair wasn’t just to make the playoffs this year.

I would be very worried if they proclaimed the rebuild was over after acquiring a bunch of ufa’s for first rounders and still end up in the race for ninth.

I don’t know about other Sens fans but I was hoping to be in the mix around this time, which I mean we kinda were.

The loss to Norris and our goaltending injuries really hurt too.

I’m disappointed with the season but not furious at it.
