This is an exceedingly fun thread.

Not sure how the group in general feels about melo-death but Insomnium has to be considered one of the top guns still active in the genre, although this is an older song. They'll be playing Altar Bar on Jan 12 with Dark Tranquillity and I'll certainly be in attendance.

The Beauty (or shame, depending on your perspective) of this thread is that most of the people I know think I listen to weird hipster music, and then I come here and find that I'm about 30 degrees lower on the indie-hipster scale than most of the posters here.

Anyway, I'm posting from work, so I can't link any videos at the moment...

and then there's me, who has never heard of at least 90% of the music posted in here

That's a brutal list to fill out. And I realize my music never changes much and I like pretty standard stuff for the most part. You all have some interesting tastes.

I just wanna talk about music until the playoffs.

Anyone like this new Death Grips album Jenny Death? Does anyone like Death Grips at all?

Let me ask a new question here. What's an experimental artist/album that you're really into/can tolerate? Very loose definition of experimental. I would classify Animal Collective as experimental. Something heavy with synths, or weird time signatures.

I don't know that this is that crazy, pretty mathy though. A friend of mine described this as "the most distracting band I've ever heard" in a negative way, so there's that.

Beefheart. I like that album.

Zen - That track's cool. For a minute, it sounded like The Sea & Cake, but all messed up. Don't really like that autotune vocal, though.

Yeah, the auto tune is a little off putting, thankfully most of their stuff is instrumental.

I dig the Sea and Cake a lot.

Yeah man. It's my favourite album. All the best parts of Beefheart converged there, IMO.

Not really a fan of most weird time signature stuff outside of the Beef though, other than acts who are probably better described as having a more fluid sense of time like gospel, delta blues, and free jazz/improv.
