Since the thread title mentions "Blues", I just picked up an album from Sonny Boy Williamson, "Down and Out Blues" from 1959. Looks like the version I got was pressed in 2018. Very good blues album. Authentic and real. The way I like my blues.

That's originally a Checker/Chess joint! I used to live down the street from where the studio used to be in the 1940s when I was in Chicago.

Love those 1940s-1960s electric blues records, that space just sounded great. If you're into that sound, Jags, I recommend my all-time favorite blues record, Lightin' Hopkins' Lightnin' Strikes.

Not old-time blues, but about a month ago I got sucked down the YouTube rabbit hole and went on a near-unhealthy binge of live Stevie Ray shows. Unbelievable talent.

Definitely gonna check out Lightnin' Hopkins!

I'm not sure if anyone is interested, or cares at all, but HFBoards is the closest thing to social media I use. Anyway, I've been playing the drums for 42 years (since I was 7). My main kit are some 1972 Ludwigs. My favorite drummers have all used acoustic/electric hybrid kits. A set of Roland TD-20's became available to me, but I couldn't swing or justify the cash. So, my three sons chipped in and surprised me with them. Just built a new setup.

The drums with white heads are the Rolands. They're the exact same drums Neil Peart used in his Time Machine Tour kit, which is the kit in my avatar photo. (I also own every size of Remo Rototom they made- 6", 8", 10", 12", 14", 16", & 18"- not in photo.....no room)

Also, yes, that is an autographed photo of the Hanson Brothers. It reads "To (my name), only teacher tough enough for the Hanson Brothers!" Normally my bubble hockey sits there, but I needed extra space......

SRV is the reason I now listen to the blues more than any other genre.

Lighnin' was a huge influence on SRV, and pretty much anyone out of Texas. Just phenomenal playing and showmanship.

Les Blank did a great documentary on him in the late 60s:

@HandshakeLine

You posted this album in the free agency thread (but it was too buried to comment). It's funny because that sustained guitar sound running through this album is why I took to that Laurie Anderson song above. I played the hell out of this the winter it came out.

I absolutely love that album for many reasons.

1) It's just a fantastic collection of witty, smart, funny songs.
2) The production is all cheap amps, trashy guitars, weird drum machines, etc. Smokey amps and Danelectro masonite guitars.
3) It's like the Jesus and Mary Chain were writing Brill Building pop songs.
4) The secret to a great guitar sound is always distortion > tremolo > reverb.
5) FEEDBACK!

Also, this is gonna be in my head all morning:
