At this point, if the Devils pick Kakko I'd actually be disappointed, because I already feel like he's a Ranger. But I'm sure I'd get over it after seeing Hughes play for us.

I just checked out the draft board (quite an...interesting read, there) and in one thread, our former expert talent evaluator who for some reason disappeared from here said he thought Turcotte would be the best player in the draft. So, we should probably adjust our expectations. Lots of insane shit being thrown around over there. Fun to read.

Kakko and Hughes will probably be the best players of the draft but I don’t disagree that Turcotte will be very good as well

I give PB credit though, he’s stuck to this take for a while

I think Kakko is the real deal, and I'm so pumped to see him in NY.

That said, if the Devils decide to take him #1 overall, it could be one of the luckiest moments in franchise history.

If the pieces come together, and his body can hold up, I think Turcotte has a good of a shot as anyone to be the third best player in this draft.

Thats his issue though.

He makes a knee jerk evaluation and then sticks to it no matter what happens afterwards. Anyone who disagrees with him is either 100% wrong or a shill for the Ranger organization.

What's his take about Turcotte?

Kakko has played this season first in the Finnish Liiga for TPS, then U20 (gold medal) and after that world Championships (also a gold medal). The kid must be tired after everything and deserves a rest.

I must say that I'm surprised about the fact that Hughes is still the #1 consensus pick.

Watching him at the men's world Championships, for me at least, he didn't quite deliver. I've seen him play before and he was amazing in the Juniors, with his ability to find players and just his speed.

In the Men's though... He fell down and tripped over his skates more than I've ever seen anyone fall in a professional game.

While I agree that he has nothing left to prove, I can’t help but feel that fans and teams look at the combine very differently. Fans want to see the measurements and fitness testing results and I feel like teams want to get to know these kids through interviews and get into their medical records. That said, I’m 100% sure the Rangers (and whatever other team) will be able to have a good chat with Kakko before the draft

On the midday NHL Network show yesterday, Burke mentioned that teams primarily use fitness testing to evaluate what kind of injuries a prospect could be prone to in the future.

I think he just tried to do too much instead of slowing down and simplifying his game. He's playing in a different game going up against Adults and Pros. He seemed like he was still trying to play against kids. Watching highlights of his shifts show the skill is there, he just needs to adapt it to a Pro game.

I was annoyed less by PB than most posters here were, but his track record of "bold" predictions speaks for itself. I give him zero credit for sticking to his guns, considering they seem to be chosen on a whim, and are rarely right; certainly no more than random chance would dictate.

He can formulate genuine arguments for "his guys", but so could any of us after using a random number generator to decide who those guys were.
