Watching yesterdays game one of the thing that stands out to me a bit that is a "downside" for a winger is that they often just don't touch the puck as much as a center does. Kakko really has to rely on his teammates to move the puck to him and as a winger seemed to have the assignment of curl out of the zone and head up ice and may or may not get the puck, and wasn't really relied upon to be the guy to move it up the ice, while I think you'll see Hughes be relied upon to be that puck carrier and get more puck touches because of his position and transition ability.
Sometimes you can at least partially shut down a winger by shutting down his linemates depending on how the team uses its wingers

Yeah, you really want him to play with a center that can get him the puck. Sakari Manninen has done a great job at that in the WCHs. He is a 5’7 150 lbs speedster/playmaker.

Both Ziba and Strome, as RHSs, have an easier time getting the puck to the left side and neither are really specialized set-up mans in that regard. Howden?

I like how cangilosi argues tha the penguins have more cups than the caps cause crosby is a center and ovechkin is a winger like it has nothing to do with the fact that the penguins also have malkin. 2 elite players is better than 1 elite player regardless of position

True. But having strength down the middle is huge.

How many Cups would the Penguins have if they had Crosby and Ovechkin, rather than Crosby and Malkin?

To put it a different way, if you could have the best center or best winger in the league which would you take? To be clear I'm not suggesting Hughes or Kakko will become that, but rather if you rank them similarly the center is usually the player with more value.

Backstrom is elite.

Can we get more Hughes updates and stuff from people in the know? It kinda feels like if he lands here it'll be a let down... which is absurd, but this thread has been pretty much all Kakko, all the time.

It will be.

I've already filled out the adoption papers for Kakko.

I'll throw a pretty big temper tantrum and definitely drink alcohol if he leaves me now (I was gonna drink regardless)

They say championship teams are built starting up the middle G/D/C (not in any specific order even though some say start from the goal out) but it's always a good option to have a quantity of quality. It's not like many top talent wingers haven't made adjustments to handle a portion of their time at pivot.

Give me BPA franchise type players and the rest will take care of itself.

Well Kakko is still playing..

I hear the US flight is on time.

Hughes have ever possibility to become a classic No 1 center like Mike Modano, Pat Lafontaine and the likes. He has an amazing effortless stride. He moves the puck really well, sees plays nobody else sees.

I think there is a very good chance/risk that he has a whole bunch of very solid seasons infront of him. Be a shift by shift threat, always help at pushing the play up ice when he is out there.

Malkin won the first cup for Pittsburgh, Crosby disappeared toward the later rounds of that PO. Staal won a cup for Carolina. I can definitely see Kakko being a bigger winner, I would love our chances with him.
