Player Discussion Mitch Marner, Yet Again

This latest inside intel (probably not true) that he is waiting to see how the playoffs go before deciding if he will return is pretty hysterical, ok bud..

The only real information we have is what we were privy to last off season. Though limited, seemed like the best bet was Leafs had no intention of making an offer through the season.

Assuming that's the case unless anything credible is released to the contrary.

Letting him walk is bad asset management sign him and trade him to a team who believes in the koolaid
I agree — the key is getting him to sign a new contract without a no-move clause. You could offer him more money to waive it, maybe something around $14 +million per year, but at that price, who’s going to want him? He’s got us backed into a corner right now, and unfortunately, I doubt we end up getting anything for him.

Why is that hysterical? We know for a fact that post Boston series there were a number of teams that reach out to Toronto to see if they could acquire him.

He’s also been getting his back kicked in by fans year after year. At some point you get sick and tired of that shit. No amount of money/childhood dreams is worth coming back and dealing with it.

Marner is going to have plenty of suitors in UFA. I don’t think he’s going to get a. 14 mill per year contract but he can go to a good team if he wants. He’s in his prime and players like him don’t often hit the market. The only thing we’ve heard is contrary to what you’re saying. The leafs want to sign him and Marner wants to be leaf. But if the playoffs don’t work out I think it’s perfectly reasonable for both the player and team to agree that it’s just not working here.
