And just for the record, I bet that Zibas Finnish is 10x as good as Kreiders Russian. Ziba only speaks Finnish with his mom.

Scouting combine starts today. The interview process begins today. The medicals begin on Wednesday. The testing is on Saturday.

Kakko will be a few days late. He has a good excuse. The Finnish team will probably get a big celebration back home. Fly to Buffalo. Busy time for Kakko.

The draft is just 3 weeks from this Friday.

Oh baby.

Columbus did a draft video a few years ago. JD sat in the back of the room with a yellow legal pad listening and taking notes. He allowed Kekkalainen and the scouts to ask the questions.

This will be JD’s first opportunity to meet the Rangers scouting staff. Drury should be back from Slovakia. He didn’t attend the organization meetings in California. Drury was in Slovakia with the US team. They will go over their list again.

JD said he would run into Gorton at the US Development Program games in Michigan. JD said it was just a 2 hour drive from his home in Ohio. He would talk to Gorton in Michigan. It appears Jeff spent a lot of time scouting those players and JD knows them pretty well too.

The Rangers have a good book on the those players if they potentially add another top ten pick.

I think the Rangers are going to be very aggressive in trying to add another top 10 pick. Zegras, Boldy, and even Newhook are probably the targets.

It all depends on what the price is. On paper, Edmonton and Buffalo's picks could be in play for some immediate help. Both teams are under tremendous pressure to make the playoffs sooner rather than later.

Quick is going to be dealt to Columbus to replace Officer Bobrovsky. LA is going to rebuild.

Chicago is in the middle of another retooling process. They need to start thinking about life after Toews and Kane. I have no idea who they are targeting at 3rd overall. They can just as easily take Byram, Turcotte, Dach, or Cozens.

Detroit is rebuilding. Colorado will keep the 4th overall and add to their core.

Anaheim is a mess. They're entering their post Perry and Getzlaf era.

Edmonton and Buffalo reek of desperation. Rip them off, Jeff.

Does the result of this tournament make it more likely we get Hughes? Kakko is a proven winner at every level he's played at...teams really value that. He's won the U18, WJC, and WHC recently.

According to Finland's head coach Jukko Jalonen, there is no debate.
"If NJ wants a winner, they should pick Kaapo," he stated. "Hughes is a great player, but in those tight games, Kakko has always come out on top."

Kinda what I would expect his coach (or any players coach really) to say. I think the Devs go with Hughes... but we'll know soon enough.

60/40 they take Hughes IMHO

The two are too close to call. Marketing puts Hughes over Kakko from the Devils perspective.

Maybe I'm naive, but I suspect they'll pick the player they think will be best, without much other consideration. They already have a Hart trophy winner over there, not sure how Hughes is more marketable than that.

More like 90/10 imo. You consider the entire body of work, his projection for the future, the fact Hughes is a center, and a US kid with ties to the org, the fact he's been ranked #1 for so long...and he's the pick almost for sure. Never say never, but passing on him would bring a lot of questions and second guessing.

I am going with 99/1. Like I said, Shero can survive if somehow he takes Hughes and Kakko becomes the better player. He is not surviving second guessing himself, taking Kakko and watching Hughes prosper across the Hudson.

But in the event that second guessing takes place, I would be more than happy to take Hughes off his hands and allow him to grow into role and develop, while Mika continues to play 1C and play against the opposition's top lines.

95/5 that New Jersey takes Hughes. Slightly favoured overall, more coveted position, and has ties to Shero.

When Kakko was playing so well at the start of the WCs, instead of making a big deal out of it, the Devils' Twitter posted something equivalent to "how they are playing in this tournament is nearly irrelevant when you look at their entire body of work."

I think it may be 60/40 Hughes in general but for Shero it is more like 95/5. Shero has a history of picking centers over wings.
