I've heard no indication that there views on Kakko or Hughes is different than any other team. I'm not concerned.
That's the hope. I mean, if Kakko's play doesn't reinforce the notion of taking him, I give up. lol

Jack is Kaapo's biggest fan right now. Landing in NY instead of NJ even being draft at #2 would be worth it.

This is a common thought around here, but it doesn’t make much sense. Devils players can definitely choose to live in the city if they want to. Unless you’re saying that the big differentiator Ian the right to play at MSG, which in my opinion isn’t the massive privilege that a lot of people think it is.

Speaking from experience, for players who want to be in NYC and all that comes with it, New Jersey has never been seen as a viable option.

Do you mean living in NJ near NYC? I agree. I didn’t that myself for many years. But what I’m saying is that it is very easy for a Devils players to live in Manhattan and commute to Newark if they want to. Probably easier to do that than to commute into Manhattan from Westchester.

I mean, the difference is personal exposure and the size of the fan bases

They certainly can, but most of the NJ guys really tend to stay in Jersey.

Right, wrong or otherwise, I think there's a sense that NYC is still not their "home" when they're with the Devils.

Kind of like how if Panarin (or any player for that matter) wants to be LA, Anaheim/Orange County isn't likely to serve as a substitute.

They’re more likely to live in Bergen County.

I’m not doubting any of this by the way, I’m just saying that if a player was so inclined, they could absolutely choose to live in the city. I think this speaks more to the personalities of hockey players in general. Most of them grew up in rural or suburban communities and the allure of the big city isn’t as significant as many people here, who grew up in NYC and are fully bought into the “greatest city in the world” mindset, think it is.

I’m a die hard Ranger fan from NJ. I’d much rather play hockey in Vancouver or Denver than NYC.

Kakko has diabetes and celiac disease. Had to look up celiac disease. Kakko can't eat gluten.

Kalle Kaskinen is a co-owner of TPS. He played junior hockey with Saku Koivu.

Jussi Ahokas coached the Finnish team are the U20 WJC.

“He is a huge part of our franchise,” Shero said of Hall. “Good players like to play with good players, and we’re going to add another real good one again.”

Hall and Hughes already have a rapport. The 17-year-old said he skates with Hall in the summer and that Hall has “been really good to me.”

The Devils will do anything they can to re-sign Hall to a long-term contract. Hall is entering the last year of his contract this summer.

Because the connection between Shero and the Hughes family runs deep. Before he worked in front offices, Shero was a player agent in the late 1980s and one of his clients was a minor league defenceman from Providence College, Jim Hughes – Jack and Quinn’s father.

“I’ve seen Jack play a long time,” Shero said. “I know his dad well and his mom … We certainly recognize that Jack’s a great young player. Everybody can see his skating is obviously incredible. His instinct, he’s selfless on the ice, he’s a team player, he’s a centre, he’s just got talent and upside to his game. You can see he can get stronger and stronger but his instincts are so good. It’s fun to watch.

“It’s an exciting night for our franchise.”

The connections are very strong between Shero and the Hughes family.

Sucks that he can't eat gluten just from being able to enjoy food. At least it forces him to eat a much healthier lifestyle needed as a pro athlete though?

Kakko having a pretty good game vs. Canada @ WHC (scored the first goal for Finland)... kid has some really good hands - impressive!

Edit: Watching the game its pretty cool hearing fans sign/chant throughout the game... love the energy.

It's not a big deal. Not eating glutein is a good idea anyway. I don't have the disease but don't eat glutein just because it's healthier. And oats - the only healthy grain - are still alright.

Diabetes is the much bigger deal.

Thankfully it's completely manageable these days and many great athletes have had it.
