Agreed. I think it depends on a couple of scenarios.

If Kreider is moved, and the pick is in the mid-teens, you probably have the “best” foundation for that approach.

This could potentially be helped further if Winnipeg’s pick is higher, say the 19-22 range.

If the former happens, but not the latter, it becomes more difficult.

If neither happens, it becomes a real long shot, even if Tampa wins.

If neither happens and Tampa doesn’t win, the best you can hope for is to maybe make a move in the 20s, similar to last year. Not that it would be a bad thing.

I still lean towards Arizona as the most likely option to get into the early teens for Kreider. Gotta think they're anxious to add some proven NHL talent to their roster and make the playoffs next season.

Then at 14, the most likely trade partners are Buffalo and Edmonton. They're the two teams who are probably considering moving their pick for more immediate help, and I think going from 14 to anything higher than 8 is just completely unrealistic. The question is what pieces can you add to entice either team? I don't see picks alone getting it done for either of them. Vesey, Names, Fast, etc, likely aren't guys that move the needle in that situation. So do the Rangers open up their prospect piggy-bank and move a body?

Chevy never said anything about picking Laine, even though people were 99% sure he's their guy.

Carolina surprised and invited Svec to Carolina and released some video of his visit.

Am I the only one that continues to run the Tankathon lottery just to see how unbelievably lucky we actually got to move up to 2nd?

Sure, I keep pulling the 1st and 2nd pick once in a while as odds would have it, but more often than not the results show us losing at least 1 to 2 spot at times even 3 spots.

I keep shaking my head, it's just something I'm not used to with this franchise which has been too good to suck, too bad to be good.
94 is too long ago and I want to experience a cup as an adult just so I can act and cry like a child again.

I know I'm getting ahead of myself but this is a good step in the right direction.

I am going to sleep now for the first time since the draft (It's been a LOOOOOONG day)

I better not wake up to us picking 7th

I`m in playoffs mode now so I`ve the New York shedule +7 hours. I also have the New York clock on my world clock, hehe. :)

Anyway it`s crazy to think about the Oilers win in the last game decided us to get that #2nd overall pick in the lottery, because 4th & 5th position would be a disaster. So I hope all learn a lesson into next season as long we are in the bottom it does not matter much even though chances increase.

@eco's bones and I both ran 100 simulations yesterday.

7th was the most common occurrence.

Very lucky to get #2

can someone explain how the combinations work I have no clue

Depending on where the team landed each team gets a combination of 4 numbers. (I think Rangers had what? 78? combinations or so).

During the lottery, just like with the powerball or whatever other lottery your country has, the balls are pulled in a combination.

They then check and see which team has the combination (like as if you filled out a ticket) and whoever has that combination wins it.

Running the simulations is fun I guess, but it's a waste of time. The odds were published beforehand. All the sim does is manifest those odds. If you run the sim enough times, the results will converge on the odds. 7th had the highest probability of occurrence.

For sure, but it was more for my own lack of sanity yesterday than anything else.

I find myself eyeing Vancouver if we can get within 4 picks of them. Are there four guys on the board they have comparable to Zegras that they’re just as okay with, especially with the addition of another first?

Are they cool with one of Newhook, Caufield, York, Krebs, Broberg, or Soderstrom and then grabbing another kid in the 20s?

I ran it once a few weeks ago and we moved up to #2. So I stopped there. As luck would have it the Devils won #1 overall. :)

We got lucky, that's it. But normally your odds at a top-2 pick are better if you finish last than 12th. In 2000, we got a much better goalie in the 7th round than the Isles got at 1 overall. That doesn't mean that we should be rebuilding with 7th rounders instead of top picks.
Pejorative Slured. My point is the rangers don’t end up with the 2OA if things didn’t shake out the exact way it did. The rangers didn’t get lucky. The team in the 6 slot got lucky. That’s my point
