I totally admit I'm greedy and want Zegras too.

Love having 3 or possibly 4 first round picks. But I'd move those extra firsts in a heartbeat if my end result was Kakko and Zegras.

There's my potential franchise player, and there's my potential playmaking center.

2020 is still an option, and I cross that bridge when I get to it, but if Kakko and Zegras are our haul from 2019, and we find a gem or two in the later rounds, THAT is the type of draft I've been waiting for.
All depends on what happens with the stars and TB picks. If they both become 1sts, definitely try to package all 3 to move up. Of they cant find a partner, consider moving 2 of those for 1's next year. Especially if a fringe team is open for business.

If you are interested in trading a player (kreider for example) to get another first, edmonton and montreal might be willing. They likely thinking win-now. Maybe chicago, but going to need a big return to give up the 3rd pick.

For the 2019 NHL draft, the New York Rangers select....

Vasily Podkolzin!

Seriously, I would collectively lose my shit.

He might not even come over for 2 years. Not even a chance of happening, especially since Kakko is the most NHL ready player in the draft.

Kakko has such great hands, always moving the puck about in a motion where he appears to be fishing for the next pass/shot. I wish his foot speed matched his hand speed as he's pretty agile but appears to have average or slightly above average speed which we know the NHL as a whole is continuously moving towards as a required quality.

Either way I think he has a similar skillset to Malkin with the big body, close control, and ability to play even with a player hanging on his back.

I know it’s not going to happen. I just get serious flashbacks of Pavel Brendl, McIlrath, Sanquitti, Jessiman, etc.
Brendl and Sanguinetti were the correct picks, the players themselves just didn't pan out.

Jessiman was an off the board picked but we'll never know if he could've worked out because he had his career ruined by injury.

McIlrath agreed.

I would just say that picking 2nd overall is different than 10th overall. It's a near consensus from everything we've been hearing that Kakko/Hughes are 1-2 and far ahead of the rest of the field.

I hate doing this because it always looks like I'm defending the pick when I'm not; Jessiman was expected to go in the early 20s, he wasn't 'off the board'. We took him 10 spots too high (there were rumours a few teams around 13-16 were interested), which was criminal with who was available, and if we were that keen on him we should have tried to at least trade down and get some more assets, but we didn't just pluck a random name out...

Actually kind of similar to McI where mocks/rankings had him going anywhere from 17-32 (with an average being about 23)

After drafting Kakko, Rangers will have the best prospect pool in the league.

And we are a favorite for Fox too. And we have the Jets first and the Lightning and Stars conditional firsts if not 2nds also.

We are going to be the talk of the draft if those conditionals work out in our favor.

And I would imagine Kreider is also in play for another 1st+

I FINALLY got a chance to get an extended look at Seider.

I see why people are high on him, but I wouldn't be at all comfortable taking him as high as some have him. Love the base of skills, but hes a project through and through.

Yes and maybe another hit in 2020 draft - and the rebuild is about 3-4 years after Stepan was moved if we consider the rebuild plan started about that year.

It started after the letter.
