Just watched the game. Didn't realize they were this bad.

At a glance it seems like the dcorps is the weakest link, pretty much AHL calibre.

If addressed they should at least be able to play a stingy defensive game to be competitive. Gotta feel for the players and fans of that team.

Not sure what the plan is there.

The plan is to wait out the multiple crippling and unmovable contracts saddled on this team, while accumulating assets for a few years so they can then decide on a direction in 2-3 years. What else can be done?

And people doing the, "You don't have to be so blatant about it." thing, again, what do you want them to do? David Quinn isn't here for long. Do you really think he is intentionally trying to suck? Just about every player on this team other than the aforementioned contracts aren't here for the long term. Do you think guys like Duclair, Zadina, Hoffman, etc are intentionally being shitty to help the franchise out or something? Intentionally tanking their value?

The team stinks and will stink for a few years. Nothing to do about it. There is no magic cure. If you have the miracle solution, I'm all ears.

This confirms my point that a #1 D is more important than a #1 C.

EK was able to put 100 pts with this team... his season was as impressive as McDavid 's one.
That's what I was saying. But people for some reason thought that putting up points is easier when the team's terrible.

Sharks team was literally 1:2 in goals ratio without Karlsson on the ice. Although, well, this season they're 1:4.5 so even worse. But 1:2 would still make them the worst in the league.

I'm definitely in the camp that the Hart winner needs to make the playoffs, but Karlsson definitely deserved more Hart love that 3 junk votes or whatever he got.

It's sad he has so many detractors who don't watch the games and rest on tired narratives to put him down, because last year was a spectacle to watch night in - night out.

Canucks showing absolutely no mercy at the Shark tank.
They actually did on their 6th goal when their player bumped Kahkonen… all the Sharks players skated meekly to the bench after Kahk got nailed in the head and all five Canucks did a Month Python quick ‘much rejoicing’ and then checked to make sure Kahk was alright. Most infuriating moment of the night as a Sharks fan.

If I'm Tomas Hertl I'd request a trade after tonight and after these first 10 games.

Dude is literally on an island. He and Duclair are the only two players that aren't 4th line/bottom pairing caliber or worse on that entire roster.
Sharks rebuild would be further along if Joe Will wasn’t dumb and didn’t extend and give him that massive contract

What's the longest losing streak that an NHL coach can survive? David Quinn is at 10.

Yes, Mike Grier's plan in San Jose is to tank and build through the draft. You're not supposed to be so damn blatant about it, though. This is the NHL, and the game tonight was simply not a competitive game for this league. Makes a fan wonder "what are we even doing here?"

This was Quinn's 300th game coached.

Yeah I don't get the plan. Even if going full rebuild, there's no rationale for being this bad. Some of their challenging areas can be easily addressed.

There are some AHL teams with a better dcorps. Surely they can improve their dcorps by waiver wire alone.

Left unchecked you wonder how this'll impact development of younger players, attractiveness for free agents etc.

This concept has been a hot discussion on the Sharks board for a few years now (and is one that will never get resolved without knowing what happens behind closed doors).

Some fans are totally OK losing every game and getting the highest odds etc etc, but others, me included, are worried about the damage effects of a scorched earth rebuild. I guess we're getting force fed this reality now.

I keep coming back to that game against the Avs where Blackwood stole a point. Winning that game would have meant dick-all in the standings but maybe would have really helped this team figure something out.

The Sharks were one point away from getting Bedard last season. Grier is making sure we don't make a mistake like that again.

Also, the Sharks have never been a spot for high ticket FA signings, even when they were a perennial contender.

When the Sharks have more young talent that actually look like they might be core pieces long-term, then they can worry about ruining them, but right now the Sharks need as many high picks as possible.

Hertl is making 8 and is supposed to, you know, not be invisible. Duclair has also been invisible, which makes their performance even worse than everyone else’s

Braindead take
I feel you. I was hoping that Sharks would get Bedard.

Hawks were literally the last team I hoped would get him.

They've had a bunch of games already a normal bad team would've won because goaltending was good enough to steal a game but the Sharks offense has been too putrid to even take advantage of those type of games. At some point they're going to win a game and it will be an incredibly ugly game

Probably when catching someone on a back to back while they themselves are rested or something like that

It wouldn't be a stretch to say that Blackwood has been our best player, despite the numbers not looking so great. They've scored more than one goal only once this season.

Ultimately, they look so much worse than last season because they can't move the puck out of their zone effectively. Karlsson was so unbelievably good last year that he basically was our entire offense, and now we're seeing what happens without him. Not to mention that most of the vets this season are either washed up or aren't play drivers to begin with.

Well they are doing a perfect tank job but it's got to be brutal to be a fan of that organization. For all the losing they've done the past few seasons they still have no sure fire star prospects and it wouldn't surprise me if they end up losing the lottery and drafting a bust at 3rd overall this year. It'll be interesting to see who their representative at the all star game is this season because it'll be the most undeserving player in the history of the game, even worse than John Scott.
