People like Mike Grier have no f***ing shame at all. Embarrassing.

To be fair to Grier there wasn't much of a choice to rebuild the Sharks any other way. The team was a contender for like 15 years and traded away so many draft picks through the years that a complete tear down of what was remaining was by far the best choice. Penguins are going to be in the same boat in a couple of years ( albeit at least they won Cups ). Contender for a long long time that never changed up the main core throughout the run turns to complete shit once that core ages out.

Sharks previous regime moved too many draft picks away ( especially in the last couple of seasons of contention ) so when that window shut they had a non-existant prospect pool .

There is always Phil Kessel to round it out a bit and make it a bit more palatable. He said he was surprised he hadn't gotten any offers...

You can't lose all your fans while legit tanking otherwise you won't have a franchise to celebrate your hypothetical better future

If I'm Tomas Hertl I'd request a trade after tonight and after these first 10 games.

Dude is literally on an island. He and Duclair are the only two players that aren't 4th line/bottom pairing caliber or worse on that entire roster.
Not a single team will touch that contract with a ten-foot pole. They wouldn't have before the season started, and they won't do it now. Too much, too long, too bad (the deal, that is).

Man that's a stat and a half 10 games in

Kind of seems this was the plan all along. Lombardi crippled the team with stupid contracts.

Doug Wilson . Lombardi stopped beeing Sharks GM in 2003 and then went to the Kings

Grier needed to gut that roster by moving their valued vets to hoard picks and prospects, makes the awful start feel like there's some light at the end of the tunnel for talent in the pipeline.
They needed a better return for Karlsson and Meier to kickstart the rebuild but both returns were very underwhelming

They opened up cap space by moving Karlsson, and are potentially getting a lottery pick from PIT this year or next.

In the Meier trade they got a hopeful top-4 dman prospect, Zetterlund has looked good, a 1st round pick (Musty who we all like) and the potential for another 1st round pick.

What's underwhelming about any of that? No one was giving us a league-wide top prospect for either.

Yeah, nobody expected the Sharks to contend any time soon, but holy hannah they are awful so far. Like, horror-bad awful.

After nine games, they have 1 shoot-out loss to show for the season.

They have 9 goals, total, in nine games. (Alex Debrincat, by himself, has matched their entire team's goal production.) They've allowed 26 goals against, putting them almost at -3 per game (or -240 for a full season).

Amazingly, their goaltending -- by save percentage, anyway -- has been fine. Their PK is about League-average so far, and their PP isn't the worst in the League (they dishonor goes to St. Louis's staggering 4.8% on the season), so their inept results are mainly down to 5-on-5 utter futility. They have scored six even strength goals all season.

How bad is it going to get? Will it get worse? Or, is this start just a mirage and they're actually not too bad?

I remember when Doug Wilson stepped down and everyone said how great of a GM he was. All I could see was the inevitable mess he left behind.

What's Grier supposed to do with a roster full of overpaid middle 6 forwards and no legit d-men?

Imagine being David Quinn right now.

Not trying to lay the blame on him but…it’s his name on it.

I get he’s still coaching in the highest league in the world but that’s got to be a real rough gig. Every time they show him on the bench, he has a “what the f***” look on his face.

I'll say this: I honestly wish to see what John Tortorella could do with this Sharks team.

I bet they wouldn't be winless.
